Obama On Oscar 'White out': Hollywood Should ‘Provide Opportunity to Everybody’

"But this does not mean Hollywood has no problems of prejudice. As the data show, it clearly does. "

Based on WHAT? How can 'analysis of film casts and awards shows, the number of black actors winning Oscars in this century', be 'pretty much in line with the size of America's overall black population' yet simultaneously demonstrate prejudice? Did someone's favorite black actor / actress fail to get nominated so, despite analytical statistics pretty much being in line', there is 'obvious' prejudice?

Using this same argument, what percentage of BET awards given out are given to blacks versus whites? Are the number of awards given out to whites proportionate to / in line with the number of whites in this country? If not then there is an OBVIOUS problem with prejudice and racism within the BET Awards...

The oscars are rediculous . It's not like it's based on any objective criteria .

But this is good example of institutional racism . The academy is like 90% white , and old . So they'll trnd to favor white performances . It's not some evil purposful plot . But the result is biased against minorities .

I don't think there's a Hispanic or Asian in the mix either .

Except it's not.

"In fact, as our analysis of film casts and awards shows, the number of black actors winning Oscars in this century has been pretty much in line with the size of America's overall black population."

I'm sure it was a mistake that you cut the quote early. Here is the whole quote: In fact, as our analysis of film casts and awards shows, the number of black actors winning Oscars in this century has been pretty much in line with the size of America's overall black population. But this does not mean Hollywood has no problems of prejudice. As the data show, it clearly does.

Nope I was waiting to see if any of you lefties actually read the link.

Standard lib irrationality.

THey somehow get the information that contradicts the lib Conventional Wisdom, and sometimes are honest enough to print it.

Then spend the rest of the article walking it back, spinning it, and doing everything they can to say "Yeah but".

THe 70s? Really?

In recent times the awards, despite the whiteness of the Oscar voters has been almost perfectly in line with the demographics of blacks in the country.

THis is a non-issue.

It was fun to poke Hollywood, but Hollywood is not racist against blacks.

I wonder when they're going to address the racial makeup of the NBA?
The NBA is racist because there are entirely too many white people, based on statistical analysis of the population of both whites and blacks in the US combined with the talent ration as it pertains to the ratio of whites versus blacks in the NBA.

EMINEMBET.jpg

Does that mean he thinks the BET Awards should be 'whitened' or eliminated, or is an 'all-black, no-whites/ no non-blacks-allowed', entertainment awards show ok?

:eusa_dance:

Eminem best rapper ever! Took crude prototype NWA and refined it into an art

Actually you're right about White Supremacist Movies.

However, Christiab themed movies always do well when Hollywood can bring themselves to do one.

Which is not often.
not really, I've been in the bizz religious themed movies do well with a small number of movies goers, it's a niche market.
the biggest bible blockbuster ever was the ten commandments not for it's message but it's effects kinda like star wars.

The Passion of the Christ - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The film has been controversial and received mixed reviews, with some critics claiming that the extreme violence in the film "obscures its message."[10][11][12][13] Catholic sources have questioned the authenticity of the non-biblical material upon which the film drew.[5][14] The film, however, was a major commercial hit, grossing in excess of $600 million during its theatrical release.[15]The Passion of the Christ is the highest grossing R-rated film in United States history, the highest grossing religious film,[16] and the highest grossing non-English-language film of all time.[17]

That's a hell of a niche.
still a niche, most Christians hated it .
high grossing films stats are only good till they are broken ,like base ball stats
keep grasping at nothing..

Then how much could a Christian themed movie, that "most Christians" not hate make, if one that most hated made 600 million dollars?

We don't know, because Hollywood can't bring itself to find out.

The Ten Commandments was in 1956.
false! there are a whole line of epic Christian themed films made in Hollywood the peak was in the late 1950's and early 60's
back then people ate them up.
Highest-grossing films[13]
....

And did people stop going to see them, or did Hollywood stop making them?

80% of this country is self identified as Christian. And Hollywood considers them an unimportant niche market.

Maybe we should adopt the Liberal principal of giving everyone 'Participation' trophies in order to avoid hurting people's feelings, as is the case here.... 'Oscars for everyone!'

They HAVE TO SAY THAT.

They can't admit that any single accusation of racism is complete bullshit, because so many of them are.

If they admit one is bs, that makes it ok for other people to ask that about future accusations, that they might really need people to believe.

Obama says they should offer opportunity to everyone and the Obama derangement syndrome disagrees that everyone should be offered an opportunity.

Amazing

Which it obviously is.

The one is some simple number crunching.

The rest is their self serving opinion on the reasons for the Oscars not going as they think they should have in some specific cases.

Whos fault is it you choose a link that says something counter to your argument? Obama? BET?

Maybe you should've read your link first then you wouldnt have to back away from your own link

I didn't say I liked or disliked any part. I asked how can someone make a claim using / accepting one statement and then make another opposing claim using the same information / data. The statement contradicts itself thus kills it's own argument.
