Obama, Your Bitch Is Our Dictator

I saw a million people plus in the square on local TV CBS and ABC last night.

Let's hold up here because I feel like this entire thread is based on a completely false understanding of Egypt's political landscape and revolutionary history.

Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood were / was simply extremely popular in Egypt. Egypt however is also extremely divided politically so having thousands or even hundreds of thousands march against the Brotherhood isn't really unexpected (especially in urban areas where Islamist popularity is lower and population densities are higher).

Simply put, Islamists are really popular in Egypt and have been for a long time. That has nothing to do with Obama or the United States. There was really only one way that Egypt's democratic revolution was ever going to end, and that was with Islamists in power (with the Muslim Brotherhood being the largest legislative bloc).

And we are opposed to . . . what?

That Obama will intervene?

Or he won't?

Well, it's really clear that the Light Bringer has not healed the world.

That is not the answer. What do you want him to do re: Egypt?

Obama is the one who campaigned and set expectations that he was going to Heal The World with his Hopenchange. He interfered in Egypt by pressuring Mubarak to step down...and here we are.

He either should have stayed out of it altogether or not sponsored a half-assed democratic transition. Instead, all he did was trade one thug for another.

At least thousands of American lives weren't thrown at the problem this time.

half assed? The only reason why Islamists weren't in power before is because Mubarak was a repressive dictator and routinely banned Muslim Brotherhood members from running right before elections. Islamists in power IS a much more realistic expression of the political will of the average Egyptian voter.

Yeah..and that's why there is a military coup now. Was Morsi Not Islamist enough?

The Egyptians blame obama because since Morsi took office obama's representative, the ambassador has expressed obama's support for Morsi.

And, Obama got involved in pushing Mubarak out, while washing his hands of the situation now.

President Barack Obama warned Tuesday of "difficult days ahead" for Egypt and said the transition following President Hosni Mubarak's earlier announcement that he won't run for re-election in September must begin immediately.

In a brief statement to reporters at the White House, Obama pledged continuing U.S. support for both a longtime ally and the aspirations of protesting Egyptians, whose eight days of growing demonstrations led to Mubarak's dramatic announcement on state television.

"We've borne witness to the beginning of a new chapter in the history of a great country and a long-time partner of the United States," Obama said of the Mubarak statement less than three hours earlier.

Noting that he and Mubarak had just spoken by phone, Obama said Mubarak "recognizes that the status quo is not sustainable and a change must take place." Repeating earlier calls for an orderly transition in Egypt from Mubarak's nearly three decades of repressive rule to a fully representative democracy, Obama said the transition "must be meaningful, it must be peaceful and it must begin now."

"Furthermore, the process must include a broad spectrum of Egyptian voices and opposition parties," Obama said. "It should lead to elections that are free and fair. And it should result in a government that's not only grounded in democratic principles but is also responsive to the aspirations of the Egyptian people."

Actually that's exactly one of the reasons why there is a military coup now. The overwhelming victory of the Islamists in the legislature and the representative proportions on the constitutional council were too Islamist for the military's liking even though they were voted into power.

Ah. So the Military is not Islamist enough, and yet the population is protesting against the Muslim Brotherhood and the Military has led a successful coup.

Thanks for clearing that up.

look to be fair, there is no middle road in those nations sometimes, they always hate on the US, the issue is, that he has sppted Morsi and now hes gone too, so we have moved from Mubarak, then dropping Mubarak, now we do what? Sppt. Morsi claim to the post or the military? IF we cut off $$ to the military, they won't last long as a cohesive force, then what? Total civil war?

And theres a stipulation in the law that we cannot sppt. a coup? So that 3 Bn $$ or so goes where?
