Obama's GM Success Story

When you are ideological slaves to the 'free market' as a solution to every problem, as are most conservatives,

of course you have to pretend that the GM bailout was a failure. It's like pretending the Earth is 6000 years old. The religion demands it.

No, it was a success, but only for the UAW.

Because big centralized government programs are known to work really well...right?

Frank's just bitter because his old tricked out Chevette with the 'Wild and Crazy Guy' bumper sticker never got him laid.

Remember when Obama saved GM?

Instead of letting go through an orderly bankruptcy and reorganizing its finances and operations, Obama stepped in to screw the Senior Secured Creditors (pension funds and investors who thought they had a senior claim on GM) and handed equity in the Company to the laziest, most incompetent group on the planet: The UAW.

Now that Government Motors has recalled more cars than they've sold, does this still count as an Obama Success?

GM's recall nightmare - May. 21, 2014

I remember when Bush approved the bailout because the loss of jobs from GM and Chrysler going under would have destroyed our country.

Do you?

Actually you dont remember it because that isn't what happened.
Bush submitted a proposal to Congress to extend TARP to the automakers. Congress, rightly, refused to go along. Bush used executive powers to do it anyway. We conservatives thought it was a terrible move with bad consequences, and many voiced it openly.
That's what happened.
What Democrats opposed Obama's take over of GM?

That's not how a Reorganization works.

You're horribly misinformed. Reorganization requires outside refinancing of debt. Noone at the time had the capital or were willing to do so.

Simple economics, yet you don't realize it.

No, really. Stay with stuff you know and this is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy outside your circle of competency.

Howey knows what goes into a good cock ring. Beyond that, not too much.

Although I was (and remain) no defender of the illegal intrustion into the b'ruptcy of GM and Chrysler, counting the number of cars recalled is a pretty stupid way to address the issue.

These "defects" are statistically insignificant and deal with "problems" that are generally nonsensical. Unless you are in the habit of attaching a boom box to your car keys.

Nothing is perfect. Today's cars are orders of magnitude safer, more reliable, more efficient, and longer lasting than anything even produced a generation ago. The recalls that are forced on the car dealers now are lawyer-driven nonsense.

You want a perfectly safe car? It will be 10,000 pounds and have a maximum speed of 8mph. And cost a couple hundred thou.

The weight if a single key in addition to the ignition key can cause the car to turn off. Considering that almost no one keeps their ignition key on it's own keyring, that is a pretty significant design flaw. You are correct that it is statistically insignificant, but GM knew about it for years, had a fix, and refused to implement it because they didn't want to cut the profit margin on the cars.

Is this what "true Americans" do? Actively cheer the failures of American companies and root for the downfall of the American president?

No, true Americans actively mock the government, just like you did when Bush was in charge.

Wrongo. Considering the state of the economy, no venture capital firm, bank or entity would or could take on the massive debt.

How would you know? No one was given an opportunity to come forward, mostly because the unions knew that they would lose their pensions. Instead, Obama stepped in, illegally saved the pensions, and screwed over people who should have got first crack at GM.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Kind of like private enterprise.

No, not bushies. It's your fault!

It was Bush's fault.
You watch.

You know, profit before anything else. Free enterprise and bow to the stock holders and give the CEO"s unfettered golden parachutes while the rest of us get something else.
And then put a limit on lawsuits and payouts.

We point out how his efforts have failed at every turn and ruminate that the average IQ of the Obama voter may well be the ruin of the Nation.

Oh, so I am a true American. Thanks for pointing that out.

I don't think I have ever accused anyone of not being a true American. There are a few idiots, on both sides, that say that, but not me, nor, as far as I know, you.

When a private enterprise fails, people lose money and learn lessons. When a government enterprise fails, it gets more money and stays stupid

And not to mention GM still owes the taxpayers billions.

Since the giveaway to the unions Americans had the ability to comprehend that to buy anything form Government Motors was to get screwed. So it's hard to feel much sympathy who failed that test of basic intelligence. Obama: The New Barnum - a whole life based on the premise that there's a sucker born every minute and two to take 'em.
