Well, you knew it was coming. Now experts are saying that Americaās poor health is a contributing factor in Covid-19 deaths. Those dastardly killjoys! Donāt they know it probably says somewhere in our constitution that citizens have a right to stick a foreign object in their mouths and suck poison into their lungs? All those cool movies with Patrick Swayze dancing and punching his way to pancreatic cancer may have gone for naught.
Grandma and grandpa, slobbering and swallowing their faces in nursing homes, have fond memories of great celebrities like Humphrey Bogart, Yul Brenner, Rod Serling, Peter Jennings, joe DiMaggio, et al wasting away from the great American pastime of a good smoke. Itās an outrage! Why should we be stripped of the right to follow these great Americans into the warehoused, urine-soaked, deathcamps of nursing homes on a journey to an early end? This is a savage attack on our personal liberties! You havenāt lived until youāve choked to death on your personal freedoms!
And what about New Hampshireās big lead as the drunkest state in America? You can barely move in grocery stores on your way to empty toilet paper shelves because of all the booze piled up in the middle of the aisles. If Virginia is for lovers, New Hampshire is for livers. Next time you go shopping, you might want to bring a rope to scale the Budweiser climbing walls.
And now the great conundrum. With about 500,000 deaths annually from tobacco and another 90,000 from alcohol, no businesses have ever been shut down to find out whatās killing the population or what can be done to stop the carnage. When the killer Coronavirus struck the first act of our state leadership was to declare liquor stores essential businesses! This was a genius plan of action because unlike the virus, tobacco and alcohol and lobbies have been paying off local and national politicians for decades.
As the virus rages it is weak competition for the for the politically connected poisoning that is rampant in our country. And government is not done. Marijuana dispensaries are popping up all over the country, corroding the resolve of citizens as they fall prey to crack cocaine, opioids, and fentanyl.
As the life expectancy continues to drop in the last legitimate first world country, it might be prudent to examine if we deserve to prevail.
