Back in those days (before Obama) illegals couldn't get free health care, welfare, and food stamps. Now Democrats are giving it to them in some states. Because of this total disregard for the law, large groups of criminals are mingling in with migrants, attempting to re-enter the US, in effect, hoping to get lost in the crowd. Thus, border crime statistics have skyrocketed in the last two or three years. Officials of the Border Patrol and Immigration Service tried pointing this out to Democrats, and of course they refused to show up for these briefings.
