Not sure why it has become politically correct to nitpick whether or not a Muslim Terrorist is directly or indirectly affiliation with ISIS.

ISLAM is the affiliation that is the problem. All Muslim Terrorist whether perpetrating attacks individually or in a group are affiliated with ISLAM. There is only one outcome.

The progressive left will make every excuse they can think of in defense of Islam. Every time an Islamist suicide terror attack happens, they will claim the motive is "unknown". For them, Islam is 'not guilty' in all cases. Even if it's clear the scum was Muslim, they will claim 'not guilty by reason of insanity', just like they are already starting to for this Islamic murderer.
