Police State: Nonviolent Offenders Obeyed State Laws, Went To Jail Anyway...

The far right progressive statists wish to lock up everyone with whom they disagree.

Nothing new there.
Bullshit. Prison should be reserved for violent offenders. There are plenty of effective punishments that can be used to deal with non-violent criminals.
You need to get off the soap box and acknowledge that the far left is every bit as bad (worse, actually) than the far right you are constantly attacking. All one needs to do is look at the current administration to see that the left is hell bent on destroying those who disagree with them.

as an example look at all the non-violent ones in Prison in our State S.J......

Non violent offenders:

Charles Manson
Al Capone
Bernie Madoff
Osama Bin Laden

Being locked up for a non violent offense does not mean the person is non violent.

Capone and OBL killed more people than what you apparently think....they were not non-violent....

Manson, Capone, and bin Laden all ordered others to kill people, therefore they committed violent crimes. Madoff, as despicable as he is, does not belong in the list.

and im sure 2 of them killed some people themselves moving up their respective ladders........

You could say the same thing about alcohol; if you didn't take the first drink you wouldn't become an alcoholic. The first time you use drugs, take a drink, placed a bet, smoke a cigarette is a first step toward addiction but that doesn't means you are choosing a life style of addiction because most people do not become addicted and no one plans to become addicted.

Addiction is a disease according the American Medical Association and most health insurance policies. Treating drug use by addicts as a crime to be punished is about the worst way to handle drug addition. In the second half of the 20th century we got tough on drug use filling our prisons with drug users instead of treatment centers and how well has this worked? Punishment for drug abuse does not cure addiction. It never has and it never will.

Alcohol isn't an illegal drug.

If you know something is illegal and is highly addictive, then its no one else's fault but your own when you choose to use it and end up addicted to it.

and yet causes more deaths and problems than probably any of the Illegal ones....
Yes, this is the greatest problem of drug addition. It's not the damage drugs do to the addict, that is my primary concern; it's the damage the addicts inflict on the rest of society. 17% to 31% of the crimes are committed by someone under the influence of drugs. The damages drug addiction do to families, friends, and employers can't be measured.

Placing the fault and punishment on the user is of no help in attacking the problem. That has been the nations position for a hundred years and the results have been sky rocketing drug use, prisons jam with drug offenders, a drug enforcement cost of $50 billion, and a cost to society in the hundreds of billions if not trillions of dollars.

i hate hearing how some drunk basterd plows into a car killing a family and the drunk walks away with minor injuries...

Maybe we should let non-violent offenders out of jail sooner. In CA we have an issue with over crowding. Check out one of the guys in this story that would have been in jail otherwise.

Sex offenders routinely released from California jails, records show - CNN.com

my Brother in law was in and out of Cals prisons 3x.....total around 15 years served......he said there are guys in there who would kill you for a hundred bucks and are people you dont want to fuck with, who are in for violent offenses and serve maybe 4-5 years of their sentence and get out on good behavior, while there are guys in there for selling 5-6 ounces of Pot who have been in there for 20 years and get denied parole...and those guys were not violent people....

In some prisons, drugs are as common as they are on the streets.

You wanna get high or drunk, so be it. Just don't hurt others in the process. It's your choice. The Nanny/Police Staters have lost their 'War on Drugs' anyway. It's time to accept that and move on.

Exactly. prosecute people for harming others while under the influence but not for merely possessing drugs or taking them safely.

Yeah, i can't even watch the show 'Cops' anymore. The whole show is about rabid Gestapo goons hunting down their drug user prey. It's so stupid. Taxpayer Dollars and resources could be so much better utilized. Human Beings wanna get high. That's the way it has always been, and that's the way it will always be. And that doesn't = Criminal. We really do have to evolve as a Society.

Becoming a people who are drug users isn't evolving.

The whole World is currently a people who are drug users. Wanting to get high does not = Criminal, anymore than wanting to get drunk does. It's time to stop forcing our Police to waste so much time & money hunting down drug users. Our resources could be so much better utilized.

People have been using drugs forever.

And anyone who wants to use drugs is already using them.

People who don't use drugs now most likely won't use them if they were decriminalized or made legal.

If we legalize drug use we can regulate it, prohibit sale to minors and tax production to raise money for treatment and education. Our current laws encourage people to hide their addiction instead of seeking treatment. Prohibition of a substance raises it's value and makes it a precious commodity.

Cigarette sales have reached a 50 year low and is decreasing about 3 or 4% a year in the US. We didn't pass laws to make smoking illegal we just taxed it and used part of proceeds to finance a campaign to persuade people not to smoke.

All drug use in Portugal has been legalized for 10 years and drug usage is down 50%. In the US we have stepped up our war on drugs and usage is at an all time high.
