POLL: The GOP and "Socialism"

How long before the Right realizes the term "socialism" no longer scares people?

Our conservative posters continue to start thread after thread pertaining to "socialism". And even though their exact definitions are fairly unclear, it's obvious they think that screaming SOCIALISM is, by itself, enough to win a debate.

As most of us can see, more and more people are becoming perfectly comfortable with the word - in part, no doubt, because the Right has completely over-used and diluted it.

Socialism should scare people.

Again, since we appear to be ignoring definitions, there's no way to know.

There is no socialist policies in america and the number of voters who support it is .000001 percent. So all these threads are uselesz.
What is welfare?

What is Medicaid?

I'm told the ACA is "socialist". Is that correct?
.
Millions were happy with their plans and doctors.

The government said too bad, we order you to do these things
Is that a "yes"? The ACA is socialism?
.
As the author of ACA stated it was a stepping stone to get to a socialist healthcare system.

This ain't Europe bunny, and Social Security, just like ALL socialist ideas will implode just a matter of time. I am 70 my children may not see SS, and my grandchildren certainly will not.

Sure they will. All we have to do is make the rich pay their fair share and means test it.
LOL, the sound of real stupidity.
And, what exactly is the "fair share" for the rich?
Remember, you are asking them for something they don't need.

So what's you're saying it's ok if someone making over $128,000 annually doesn't have to pay into social security? If there was no stop gap SS would be solvent a 100 years from now.

Social Security Administration announces small increase in 2018 wage base
Are you serious?
I made over 128K most of my life.
I stopped paying at 128K, I payed until then.
haMy 401K is untouched, now tell me (means test) why since I saved MY money, I should donate to the idiots who did not save, or risk better jobs?
Socialistic idiot!

No I'm not kidding you and I don't care how much money you have, if you're earned income is over 128K why should you have the privilege of not continually pay into the system while the guy making under $128K has to keep paying?

Socialism communism whatever have no influence on this nation...get a clue. We are a capitalist nation. The corporate elite have never had to do less work for more pay. Ever.
There’s a reason why redistribution does not work, because the people think it will are fucked in the head

I'm still waiting to hear how the government controlling which restaurants can open is a safety net for those in need.

Short Version:
Socialism … Being a rock collector.
Capitalism … Selling the rocks collected.

The biggest difference ...
How much of either a person has to invest in both ...
To get the return they are looking for.

Paying into Social Security should be 100% voluntary

I don't see what the problem is here.
Socialism needs money from other countries to survive. It is anti-profit and removes incentives. Simple as that.

As the author of ACA stated it was a stepping stone to get to a socialist healthcare system.
"Stepping stone". Okay, that tells me you do recognize that this exists on a continuum, that it's not one or the other.

Correct?
.
Symantec’s. Either it’s moving towards socialism or it’s not. It was designed to move TO Socialism.

And yet everything being pointed out is the Lefts love of socialism. The latest:

So based upon the responses, it is the Left who don’t understand socialism and what it is. Which is why they think they love it.
Okay, what is it?

I thought it was government ownership & control of all means of production and distribution.

What's your definition?
.
The means of production doesn't have to be owned and controlled by government in a socialist society. Marx himself said the less government the better. To any degree that it is dominated by government it is meant to be done democratically. As any conservative will tell you, we have a republican form of government, it is not truly democratic. So the notion that our current government could be a reliable structure in a socialist society is a bit of a stretch.
Marx was a piece of shit...

Don't tell me, tell it to hyphen Cortez and Bernie Sanders and the angry crazy democrat leadership who are starting to make the European liberals look sane.
As a European liberal I can say your full of it. Bernie is slightly more to the right of the general Western European citizen. Still waiting for him to say for instance that Election Campaigns should be funded by the government. A perfectly normal and non-controversial thing here. Not only that, look at the better life index. You will find that the US is behind a lot of, so called socialist countries, as they are referred to by the right. What does that tell you?OECD Better Life Index

Bernie mentioned quite a lot that campaigns should be publicly funded. Thank you got backing up my point, though. Bernie is as far as the left goes in America and he'd still be questionable as a leftie in Europe.
I stand corrected. He is on par with most Europeans. By the way, my wife is American. We live in Belgium over America for a reason. My kid has opportunities here which would be pretty hard to accomplish if we'd decide to move to the US. Like guaranteed access to healthcare, an assured income, near free schooling etc. I've always found it odd to use socialism as a derogative term. Communism I'd get but Socialism seems relatively benign. The same goes for liberal by the way.
You can keep your socialism, but that’s where the problem is you want to force that world of piss and shit on everyone else that wants nothing to do with it, cannot afford it and will never use it
So you won't take a pension?
I want nothing to do with it.

How many of those old white conservatives use social security? We already have socialist programs, and they do what they're supposed to. We have to stop using the word socialism. People are too dumb to get over the stigma that has been attached to it by the propaganda machine. It's a buzzword that automatically shuts down the conversation. They hear it and their brains turn off.

I paid into the system for 40 years, the government never invested it in anything. How is that "socialism" exactly?

Trust in the federal government will get you nowhere

Go back to it's inception that is why. If one pays we all pay. Also if you don't need don't draw it.

I guess I'll take that as a "yes".

It sure can be tough to get a straight answer around here.
