President declares: Every gun that is made, every warship launched is a theft from the hungry

Who said anything about Obama?

It was Eisenhower who made the quote in the OP. Seems he would know more about the subject than anyone else....won't you agree

You should credit Eisenhower and actually put quotes around it if it is. Very misleading but not surprised from someone like you.

I said it came from the President

Words all presidents should live by, don't you agree?

THE President is Obama. Eisenhower is A President. Like I said, very misleading but expected.
It's also very amusing to see all the rightwingers coming unhinged at Obama when presented with a quote from the last decent Republican President.
It's under their skin worse than a TB test...

At least there has been a decent Republican President. Can't say that about any of the modern Democrats.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter plane with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. This is, I repeat, the best way of life to be found on the road the world has been taking. This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron. … Is there no other way the world may live?

Great speech by a great President

.

Yes Eisenhower was right.

However, he was there when it all started and helped to start it.

So he could have been more honest and said every weapon of war I requested and authorized to be built and the whole MIC that I helped to created will cost...........

I find it interesting that people leave that part of the whole thing out.

Eisenhower understood the sacrifices a nation makes in investing in its military and ultimately what a waste to humanity that it was
Nevertheless he maintained military spending at a much higher level than today. So are you saying we should follow his example?

Who did he steal that from? He's not smart enough to think up himself

A very smart man indeed

He understands the military industrial complex and what we give up to feed it
Better be careful last president that went after them ended up assassinated in Dallas,Tx.
That was Jackies doing
So you're claiming Jackie had him assassinated?
She had a motive and was at the scene of the crime

THat's a bogus number.

Our dominance discourages spending by both our allies AND many of our enemies.

Also, spending does not compare well from nation to nation.

Threats? Terrorists, Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, off the top of my head.

None of those threats warrant 25% of our military spending

None are capable of engaging us on the land, sea or air

Sure they are. Terrorists hit US on 9-11, Russia has thousands of nukes aimed at US, the US has forces stationed in South Korea where they would be easily hit by North Korea and/or China.

Unbelievable how lame your fear mongering is

Totally clueless as to global threat

You asked, I answered.

What is the global threat in your opinion?

Famine

Well, considering that the US is one of the largest food producers on the planet and, if not for immigration would have stable population, I think we are doing plenty to prevent famine, despite our military spending.

So, yeah! Happy ending!:woohoo:

Apparently a lot liked him. He won 525 out of 538 Electoral votes for reelection. The only votes for Mondale came from his home State of Minnesota and Washington, D.C. which has gone Democrat since it got electoral votes. Neither one of them are a surprise. It should noted that all the bad things people like you claim Reagan did as President during his first term had zero effect on getting elected.

We do not have the Soviet threat we had in the 53 when Eisenhower made the speech

In fact, today we have nowhere near the threat that Eisenhower faced
Yeah, Reagan rocked, huh?

I liked Reagan

He acted correctly in not trying to exploit the collapse of the Soviet Union
He also wanted to completely eliminate nuclear weapons

The Soviet Union collapsed during the Bush Administration, moron.

President declares: Every gun that is made, every warship launched is a theft from the hungry

When he said that in 1953, did he also mention what the cost of socialism spreading across the globe, would be?

How many would go hungry as workers fell into sloth and did their jobs half-heartedly?

How many would starve when crops failed and they found they had no reserve? No rich an idle nation to supply the food they lack?

How many would die when emergencies happened and no ambulances were available? No fire trucks? Roads were inadequate for relief to get to the stricken location?

A military costs less than those things... because when government becomes socialistic, all of those things start affecting the entire country.

Yea...but our infrastructure is crumbling, healthcare is a joke, education is failing

About the cost of a Carrier task force and fighter wing

Looks like socialist investment in military vs social led to that

Infrastructure? You do realize that majority of federal spending is on entitlements, right?

OUr healthcare is top notch. The uninsured is an issue, but other nations have other issues, such as deadly wait times, or low quality care.

Our issues with education are not caused by lack of money.

The usual incoherent post from the usual incoherent liberal.

Sounds like none of them want to talk about the inevitable results of their programs.

Who can blame them?

Americans love their War. Can't live without it. In that respect, they have quite a bit in common with violent gangs like Al Qaeda and ISIS. It's a blood lust. And Americans have been raised on it. It is what it is.

What a stupid, stupid thing to say. Fuck you comparing Americans to terrorists.
