Donald J. Trump, pressed Wednesday on his support for a ban on abortion and what it would mean in practice, said that “there has to be some form of punishment” for women who have abortions.

The remark, which set off an immediate firestorm of bipartisan criticism, was the latest in a series that could be highly damaging to Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner, in a general election. His approval ratings among women are already low nationally.

Mr. Trump made the comments in a town-hall-style forum with Chris Matthews of MSNBC, which was prerecorded for broadcast Wednesday night. Mr. Matthews pressed Mr. Trump on his support for a ban on abortion, asking him how he would enforce such a ban.

How does this play with American women ? They would not put up with it over here and abortion is not a political issue at all.

Some Conservative women will support pro-life candidates no matter what.
It's a way for men to control women, however.

He does not articulate things in a calculated way. He quite obviously isn't a politician. If abortions were ever made illegal there would need to be a consequence, correct? It should be a state issue though, that's what he should have said.

I mentioned this in the OP but couldn't find a link till now.

Trump backs off call to punish women who have illegal abortions

Later, however, Trump clarified his position, saying in a campaign statement that, if abortion is banned, "the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman. The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb."

Its baffling. Isnt treatment of women a stick to beat Muslims with ?

If abortions are private, who is to know without reading and sharing medical records?

If abortions are done at home, who is to know?

Punishment beyond the tough decision and the abortion itself? How do you punish a crime without proof? Search the sewage pipes in hopes of matching DNA? Sift though ashes of medical waste?

It won't pass the courts.

Illegal abortions always work out well.

Lots of similarities, aren't there?

What he should have said doesn't really matter, does it? What he does say is disgusting enough.

Unlike yourself, of course.

Now the abortion pill most commonly used has been approved to be taken as late as 70 weeks.

No man has a right to decide or interfere with a woman's choice.

Mail order abortions should be taken before 24 weeks.

A woman's body is her private property.

"Abortion is here. It isn't going anywhere, either legislatively or through the courts. Let's focus on the issues we can do something about."

Trump, the Taliban and Islamic radicals: All hate women. All of them motherfuckers, especially the one with orange hair.

And Republicans are supposed to be big on private property.

Watching trump over the last 9 months you easily see he is the mother of all flip-floppers. He doesn't hold a conviction on anything for more than half a day. This is what conservatives want evidently.

A woman is pregnant. Then she is no longer pregnant. No baby. Someone makes a report to the police. Now the police can investigate including a medical examination which will easily prove pregnancy.
