Prof fired for showing picture of Muhammad

This is absolutely retarded.

Sometimes this is not good—the culture on many college campuses seems creepily authoritarian.
The latter was on display in this New York Times piece from over the weekend about an incident at Hamline University.
You should read the whole thing; it’s quite good. But if you just want the relevant details:
  • An adjunct art professor, Erika López Prater, was teaching about religious art.
  • Her course had a syllabus in which she warned students that in one class they would be examining pieces of Islamic art from the 14th century, which depicted Muhammad.
  • On the day of the class she again told students that they would be viewing and discussing the works.
  • She taught the class.
  • After the class a Muslim student was upset.
  • This student accused Prater of “Islamophobia” and complained to the administration.
  • Hamline’s administration sided with the student and told Prater not to come back to teach there again.
There are lots more details and as I said, you should read the piece because while it looks like a textbook “cancel culture” moment, there are lots of things going on.

I would imagine it make biology rough.

And takes up class time.

And takes a toll on the professors...

That’s not curriculum, now is it? “It makes the instructor’s job so super difficult” isn’t curriculum.

Give me an example of where preferred pronouns impact curriculum.

Notice the word in bold. I bolded it for you so you remember to address it this time.

I've addressed it each and every time.

The more class time wasted describing and correcting 100 different pronouns is time taken away from learning ... which in turn means less of the curriculum is able to be covered in a given semester...as lesson time is a finite resource.

Your turn. Why if not showing an image of Mohammed would have impacted the curriculum did the college...where higher learning is the order if the day...fire the professor?

Likely because NOT showing the image would not have affected the curriculum in any way.

So the point you are attempting to make is 100% moot.

Having to keep up with all the bullshit, dumbfuck. It detracts from the main agenda.
”Having to keep up with all the bullshit” isn’t a curriculum issue, genius.

No class is going to be perfect. It’s up to the instructor to deliver the curriculum with these minor challenges you’re referring to. Billy wanting to be referred to as “her” is about as inconvenient as a student with a difficult name to pronounce. Not a big deal. Doesn’t impact curriculum.

Fuck of with your bullshit, shitbag. Go be ridiculous on Mars or in Venezuela or something.

It may be a challenge for the instructor but it does not change the curriculum.

They’re still tasked with teaching the same material despite these minor challenges that you’re blowing out of proportion.

If it doesn't affect the curriculum, then why should a professor be fired for not bothering to learn everyone's "preferred pronouns"...or even their names?

That is not their job.

But it is her job as a religious art professor to understand that it is forbidden by Islam to produce or display images of The Prophet. She even proved she possessed this knowledge by acknowledging the prohibition in her syllabus.

Using your own assertions you have proven the professor that displayed the image SHOULD have been fired for using poor judgement and those that use the wrong pronouns should not.

Yes .. because there are only two sexes: male and female. Notice the bolded text so you respond.

OK, now this one is FUCKED up!!! That is a real painting from the 1300's depicting Muhammed's communion. It isnt insulting. That is a legitimate piece of history. What the fuck?

That’s not a curriculum issue.

If a physics instructor can teach physics concepts well but calls all of the students “assholes”, then the instructor would get fired for how they interact with the students, not for their delivery of the curriculum.

There’s a difference that you still can’t seem to understand.

The answer should be "YES" .. because it goes against basic science and common sense that only male and female exist. Outliers exist, and only represent a minute fraction of the population (eg hermaphrodites)
How minute...in relation to a class...using a statistical model...exactly how many biological outliers should a professor expect per classroom.

.00000005%?

And if someone wishes to be addressed otherwise, how does that impact the material covered in class?
If someone wishes to address Mohammed as a she .. that has no impact .. right?

Then .. these people, demanding to be called by certain pronouns, are introduced to curriculum .. it's not rocket science ..

Hyperbole. There is a huge difference between calling you an asshole and seeing your five o'clock shadowed face and referring to you as Mister Chaos.

And if Billy wants to be called Beth, then how does that impact the material covered?
Latching onto your hypotheticals .. if Billy, now Beth, creates the new widget to cure cancer .. and is in future history books .. well ..

Make it more challenging next time. The fact you've argued with multiple posters indicates .. it would interfere with presenting the curriculum.
