Yep, that's the way it was back then. Dad went to work and mom stayed home. There was also so much less to buy back then as well. When something broke, you had it repaired, unlike today where you throw out television sets when they brake because they cost more to fix than it is to buy a new one.
So we are a society that buys much more today than years ago. That's why you have more wealthy people and more wealth at the top.
It's wage disparity.
