Remembering Robert E. Lee: American Patriot and Southern Hero

Look, he dressed like a Cossack peasant. He's so gay in this photo I'm surprised this hasn't been banned by Fox and the Texas Text Book Commission.

And the North wasn't so much anti-slavery, as the were Pro-Union.

The North went to war to keep the Union together.

The South went to war to preserve, protect, defend, and expand Slavery.

So you're admitting that slavery was NOT a reason why the Union went to war? That's what I was looking for. Thanks!
I don't have to admit anything. I never claimed slavery was the reason the North went to war.

Any student of history knows that.

The North went to war to keep the Union together.

The South went to war to preserve, protect, defend, and expand Slavery.

You sounded intelligent all the way up until that last sentence which converted you to dumbass.

To the neo-confederate white supremacists inhabiting this thread:

All your democratic southern brethren who fought that war are dead now...I'm sure even some of them, from on high, are whispering, through the clouds: "Let it go."

You've lost the argument. Goodbye.

Sorry, twit. You don't get to make those calls. Either man up and respond in kind, or shut up. This isn't your board. If you can't hold your own, then go home with your deflated, rubber ball.

The pro-CSA folks clearly demonstrate that Lincoln was right.
Some of these people go to bed at night, smiling, happy they are defending slavers.

People who raped, beat, tore families apart, and fought to the death to defend it.

Karma may set them straight -- at some point.

Had the Confederacy won, they probably would have turned into a second world backwater, a pariah state shunned by everyone else, like South Africa.

Socialist theory postulates that America's wealth was built on slavery, but that isn't true. Slavery stunted Southern economic and social development. It reinforced an agrarian society that discouraged urban development, and thus higher education and innovation. There would have been no migration from the rust belt to the sun belt. There most likely would have been no relocation of industry from the Northeast to the South. The South would have been a commodity agriculture, and poorer had they left, at least until the 1970s and the creation of OPEC.

Since they lost, the South was able to remain in the largest, most dynamic economy the world has ever seen, and they benefited from the transition of the manufacturing economy from the north to the south.

Tariffs were the reason the eleven states seceded. It was actually fewer than that, but when Lincoln started drawing up troops, 75,000 to be precise, more states joined the confederation. There's no doubt that Herr Lincoln Über Alles wanted war and his every action pushed for it. There were some very bloodless ways to resolve their differences, such as getting rid of the tariffs altogether and eliminate the reason those states wanted to leave, but power drunk Lincoln wanted to continue Northern oppression of the South so he started a war to force them back into the union.

If you had a child who wanted to run away from home, would you tell that child you'd sooner kill him than let him leave? That's exactly what Lincoln did. By the time the war ended, there were no men in the South who weren't too old to fight or boys too young. 600,000 souls was the cost of not pursuing peaceful measures to woo the Southern states back into the union. That's just fucking evil.

You're doing a whole lot of guessing, and ignorantly too. The South had already began to establish it's own international trade contracts with Great Britain sans tariffs. In fact, not much would have changed because the one of the North's largest industries was building ships and operating the slave trade. Yeah, Leftists, the North did that. Even as separate countries, they would have resumed business relations as many warring countries do after hostilities have ceased.

Even so, it can't be ignored that even if the war was unjust, unconstitutional, and evil, it did end slavery permanently in this country. It's like a bright, yellow flower springing up and blooming from a dung heap. The sin of slavery was supported and perpetuated by every state in the country, North and South. But it was brought to an end by the war. It doesn't justify the war, it just shows how good can come out of evil.

You see? That's what makes you special.

Most people have a natural anathema to not defending people who want to own human beings as property -- but not you, nope. You just trudge right along, proud as the day is long to defend slavers.

Stand proud for your love of the Slaveholding "Country."

Tariffs had been declining prior to the Civil War, due primarily to Southern opposition. They went up when the South seceded.

How could tariffs be increased if they couldn't pass through the Senate?

Or maybe they'll have to explain all this hatred to their maker one day, and he won't buy their BS.

Wrong question. You're claiming that the South had no legitimate gripe and just decided to secede for no reason. Since that idiocy came from you, it's up to you to defend it.

We know Lee fought against the Union, thus fought for slavery.

stmike talking about history is similar to a hamster eating the pages of a history book.
The Civil War was not fought over slavery.
Of course not....it was fought over a states right to allow slavery
Oh God, not that crap again.

All one has to do is read the justifications for secession written by South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, and Texas. These were the direct words of the people who started the civil war, and the reasons they gave for doing that. Only a revisionist moron accepts contemporary spin about it.

Avalon Project - Confederate States of America - Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union

I have read those justifications as well as the Constitution of the Confederacy.......protecting slavery was prominent

Whatever the confederate states stated as their reason for seceding, the fact is that Lincoln invaded them, not the other way around, and his motive was to enforce the Morrill Tariff.

Who started the hostilities? Sure wasn't Lincoln and if the south had not who knows what might have happened.

The truth is the south did secede. Then they attacked the Federal government and war between the two countries was on. The south lost and the victorious north was very generous with their concurred land. If the numskull southerners would not have murdered Lincoln I am thinking it would have ended up even better for the south.

The pro-CSA loons are hysterical and hilarious.

No state had the right to secede.

SC had no legal right to interfere with the US transactions with its people in its own property (no, the property was not SC, it gave that right up).

The South rebelled and was executed rightfully by the North.

The shit you sycophants say is just deplorable. Not that it is shocking. Especially from a progressive authoritarian like you, Fake.
I've not seen such a sound thrashing on this board in a while.

It would be generous to describe slavery apologists in this thread as being on their heels.

Slavery was the reason the southern states militarily seized, and attacked, sovereign US territory.

They got what they deserved when Sherman made Georgia howl, and crushed their will to fight.

Now the descendants of slavers are Tea Partiers, Fox News Republicans, Stormfront members, and socially Conservative Evangelicals, who have revised their own history, and in many cases educational curriculum to suit their denial of reality.

The New Deal and the 60's revolution turned these intellectually filthy confederates into Pariahs, but if Fox News and the GOP have their way, they'll unfortunately feel good enough about themselves to do something stupid again, and create some neo-lost cause that will damage the United States

Who's advocating slavery? Did you just tell a lie?

Stop lying, Leftists!

Are we still talking about those traitors? They were lucky they weren't lined up against a wall and shot. The leaders at the least.

"woo the Southern states back into the union."

Holy shit. The fuckers had been pining to leave for YEARS. Electing Lincoln (who the South didn't even have on the ballot!) was the last straw.

They seceded and starting firing guns before Lincoln ever stepped into office.

Woo them.

Lincoln deserved to be shot for the same reason that an arsonist deserves to die in a fire he started. Lincoln started a war of Americans killing Americans, so there's no injustice whatsoever when one of those Americans comes gunning for him. In fact, it's morally neutral, a natural vicissitude of war. He killed 600,000 Americans, hell yeah shoot him! Twice!!

Wanting to leave is treason? That's all they did was leave. Treason was Herr Lincoln Über Alles drawing up 75,000 troops and invading those states. He should have been shot.

Oh wait....he was!

The South shot first...firing on a Federal Installation. They deserved all they got and more....there should be a manditory holiday for Tecumseh Sherman.
