Republicans Didn't Extend the Assault Weapons Ban. Guess What Happened?

Kentucky has some of the least restrictive gun laws in the US: no “Red flag” laws, no universal background checks, permitless concealed carry and no waiting period between buying a firearm and taking possession of it. Those relaxed gun laws, experts say, help explain why the state has a firearm death rate higher than the national average, according to the CDC.

We were high on that list until 2013 right after we had 3 Mass Shootings. We passed common sense gun regs and the NRA bankrupted itself trying to get those laws taken down. I think that 3 mil it cost the State of Colorado could have been better spent on roads and bridges.

No surprise at all.

Most of the posters here are old non-college educated white men. That's Trump base. What they don't realize is that young people consistently want more gun control. Gen Z is the first generation to endure active shooter drills in schools. They consistently identify access to guns, and particularly assault rifles, as a big, big problem.

Eventually, as the Boomers die off, Gen Z will get older, and they will implement more gun control. It's only a matter of time.

What happened is you vile scum you kept on letting violent criminals go free.

The same was said about Obama.

That was also a fantasy
First a President must have the votes in Congress to pass legislation banNing or confiscating anything.

The reality is that unless a Democrat has an overwhelming number of seats in both Houses of Congress held by Democrats, he is not going to be able to do much about gun control. Republicans will vote against such legislation.

I worry more about a Republican President in a narrowly divided Congress. If he pushed draconian gun legislation a number of Republicans would join Democrats and there might be enough votes to pass the legislation.

I'm doing my part. My nephew is going to the range with my wife and me next weekend. He's looking forward to it...learning to shoot a rifle, shoot a pistol, and (weather permitting) drive a standard shift.

Mexican gun manufacturing plants on the border? Prove it

EXCLUSIVE -- PHOTOS: Mexican Cartel Improves Weapons Manufacturing Capabilities

Intelligence reports indicate that one of Mexico’s most dangerous cartels continues to increase their capabilities by manufacturing weapons. The arms are built in clandestine factories with advanced technology and practices.

--------

To maintain their growing power, CJNG is building clandestine arms factories in Colima and Jalisco, specializing in assault rifles. The weapons are clones of the popular AR-15 rifles and AK-47s in .223cal, 7.62x39mm, and .308cal. The weapons can be identified by their lacking factory markings and serial numbers. Additionally, some of the arms are metallic in color since some factories do not apply the matte finish to protect from rust.

We have a human violence issue, not a gun violence issue.

The more destructive tools used in violence have all been regulated. Not banned but regulated. You can no longer buy a van full of Nitrogen Fertilizer unless you show you have a use for it for agriculture. You can no longer buy 100 gallons of Deisel without showing you have a use either for transportation (red colored) or agriculture (purple color). Those things are regulated for a purpose and I am not going to insult anyone explaining why.

Right now, one rifle has taken over where those things left off. The only good news is, the body count into the 200+ yet. But it's nothing to get a 50 body count which is just totally unbelievable yet it's been done. No legal non regulated sidearm has come even close to that. In the hands of a competent shooter (Las Vegas) the death rate was over 50 while the body count (including wounded) was in the excess of 400. That is one man with many guns of the AR vintage. Most of the mass shootings for schools and churches are done by inept people and yet they can still run up a 10 count or better even if they are stopped in the first few seconds using an AR.

Outside of the potential damage, what is the difference between a M-249Saw and an AR-15? The M-249 Saw is either a belt fed or a mag fed fully auto. Yet both can do the same job in the first 14 seconds. The SAW is also regulated. You want one, you have to get a license and provide proof of proper storage. People going to shoot up a school or a church will NEVER license anything. You have reduced them to either a more cumbersome rifle or a handgun. While you didn't prevent the shooting, you lessened the actual body count which saves lives.

If you wish to leave the AR unregulated then we all should be able to stock up on van loads of Deisel and Nitrogen Furtilizer. No use in worrying about lessening the body count. A new record may be set.

"All bearable arms:"
It is impossible to present a sound argument that the AR15 does not fall under this umbrella.

Such hyperbole.
20,000,000 AR15s in the US
In 2022, 8 of them were used in mass shootings to kill 54 people.

Knives are used to murder over 1,500 people every single year

Appreciate the response, but it is tone deaf to the point being made in the clip.
