Do you even understand the concept of health insurance? You're doing that anyway when you pay your premiums. The larger the premium pool, the lower the premiums. That's why plans on the SHOP marketplace cost so much less per person than plans on the Individual marketplace. That's how big businesses provide health insurance for their workers. It doesn't seem like you even understand the thing you are dead-set on reforming.

Conservatives were the ones who protected Big Pharma when they passed Medicare Part-D which prohibited Medicare using its leverage as the largest payor to negotiate for cheaper drugs. Now why on earth would Conservatives do that? Simple. They are in the pocket of Big Pharma (as are some Democrats). The solution? Don't restrict Medicare. So right there is a very simple, immediate way to reduce health care costs.

So this is the ultimate lazy-person's response to an issue that requires more than just a cursory thought. Insurance plans are a necessity if you want to have access to affordable health care and not pay out of pocket. Those plans should have a minimum set of guidelines or regulations they must follow, just like how everything else produced and sold in this country is subject to guidelines and regulations. For instance, seat belts are a regulation. All cars must have them. Did having seatbelts all of a sudden make cars more expensive? No.

Government is the largest single purchaser of prescription drugs. But right now, thanks to Medicare Part-D that you Conservatives passed in 2003, Medicare can't use its leverage as the largest purchaser of drugs to negotiate for cheaper prices. Now, why do you think that is? Because the people who wrote the law (Conservatives) wanted to protect the profits of drug companies. So in that case, government would reduce drug costs if it were allowed to bargain with drug companies as every other insurer does.

Thirdly, insurance plans can already be bought across state lines in several states. GA, my home state, is one of them. But you know what they found? Insurers won't enter multiple state markets not because of "monopolies". but because each state regulates health insurance differently. Also, breaking down the state barriers and doing away with any regulations will have the same effect on Health Insurance as it did on Banking; Too-big-to-fail. And because the business model of private health insurance is not sustainable or profitable, the breaking down of barriers and national insurers will lead to having to bail out the industry because they no longer make profits if we are guaranteeing universal coverage. You goofballs need to figure out what it is you actually want; private profits, or universal coverage. Because you can't have both.

Furthermore, allowing TBTF insurers will not increase competition, it will decrease competition because larger insurers will merge and/or buyout smaller ones, and offer non-regulated, bare-bones, catastrophic plans alongside comprehensive plans whereas smaller insurers cannot do that. So the smaller ones fgall further behind as the larger ones gobble up more market share, until we're left in the same situation we faced in 2008; a series of business failures brought about by deregulation and market consolidation. So why would health insurance be any different than banking?

These are the things Conservatives don't think about. Either cause they don't want to, or just can't. Either way, they are deficient when it comes to policy. And it freakin' shows.
