Republicans taking Blame for Shutdown - Polls

"We won't be extorted now, we won't be extorted two weeks from now, we won't be extorted in December." -- Senator Chuck Schumer

The GOP panic is a palpable thing. They could only win if the Democrats caved, but the Democrats show no signs of blinking. In fact, the Democrats are kind of smiling a bit, as they watch the Republicans squirm. I wouldn't want to be John Boehner's liver right now.

yeah thugs and assholes like Reid and most in the Democrat party are real heroes to their low life base...how the hell can WE THE PEOPLE extort those lowlifes........ out of OUR ( TAXPAYERS) money? WE have a RIGHT not to give these idiots anymore of OUR MONEY...

my gawd, the stupid and hostility from these elected asses you voted for, you people EAT IT UP
Lowlife? Sounds like when hitler used to speak of those people as unworthy of life,,"The dirt people".

You didnt answer the question.
The Great Recession is not the problem. That's long past. The Not-So-Great Recovery is the problem. Virtually every metric on the economy is worse today than when Obama took office: household income, household wealth, etc etc. The only ones making out are the very wealthy.
Obama's recovery is worse than Bush's recession.
The Dems had unlimited access to government for 2 years and passed many programs and bills. Obama's control of the executive branch has gone on for 5 years. The result is the worst economy since the Great Depression.
You can't lie your way through this. As you've been informed, whether you comprehend it or not, two of the leading indicators of the economy are GDP and unemployment; and both have improved over the last four years.
Unemployment has not improved. Unemployment is worse. Count the number of people who have left the workforce and the actual UE rate is over 10%. Add in factors like length of tiem unemployed etc and it is worse still. Segregate the data by race and blacks have had it worst of all.
Umm, the workforce is currently larger than it was when Obama took over. Perhaps what you really mean to cite is the participation rate? That's almost as dumb since there are other factors driving it down than just a weak job market. Factors such as an increase of retiring baby boomers, an increase of students choosing school over work, and an increase of deadbeats choosing to collect disability or welfare over working. Also the public sector is hurting, which relies on tax dollars; not so much in the private sector where we're currently in the 42nd consecutive month of growth as we've experienced a net gain of 7½ million jobs.

Household income is down, household wealth is down. GDP growth is a paltry 2% and gets readjusted downward every quarter. This is in contrast to other recoveries where growth out of a recession was very high, over 5% sometimes.
The worst economic performance ever.
That's not what you said. You said the Obama recovery is worse than the Great Recession.

Sorry, but that observation is pure idiocy on its face. No matter how hard you try to sell stupid, you cannot make negative 8.3 percent GDP BETTER than positive 2.5 percent or losing 800 thousand jobs in a single month BETTER than gaining 200 thousand. :cuckoo:

After looking at how much congressional districts are artificially drawn to the liking of the state government in power at the time....I would say the House of Representatives is the LEAST closely in tune with the wishes and desires of the populace.

Type "Gerrymandering" into google and read about it for yourself.

So um.. forcing an insurance mandate on them is "closely in tune with the wishes of the populace"?

Well, who got elected in 2012? Obama or Romney? (hint - Obama supported the mandate)

Who cares who got elected? Both of them are idiots.

So, who forced it down our throats? Guess what, it's the guy you elected. And I hate to break it to you, Nyvin, the polls indicated that people didn't elect Obama for his healthcare plan. They elected him on his "popularity" and the prospect of handouts.

Was he thinking when he supported the mandate? Just how will someone making no money pay the penalty for not getting insurance by January 1, 2014? You people are plainly clueless.

Doesn't give him or Reid liscense to run roughshod over the people or the House. What YOU display is supreme arrogance just like Obama and REID.

Reid has let the Senate vote on the House bill twice already.

and twice the Senate has defeated the House bill.

why won't Boehner let the House vote on the Senate bill???

cause he know it will pass with all Democrats and 17 Republicans voting "yes".

this whole fiasco would end quickly if Boehner just lets the House vote on the Senate bill.

Repubs are going to be plenty sorry in '14 if they end up holding this great nation hostage to their demands.
That remains to be seen. They faired well after shutting down the government in the 90's.

So, would this be anything like what the Democrats did in 2009, by passing a healthcare law with only one half of the two party system?

More idiocy. Everyone in the Congress, which includes both parties, had the opportunity to vote on it.

You do know that "the mandate" was the dream-child of the Conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, don't you?

The Heritage Foundation came up with that plan in the 90's as a counter proposal to "Hillary-care." It was then being promoted in Congress by Republicans until the entire notion of a federal healthcare system was dropped.

Then when Romney, Republican, became the governor of Massachusetts, he revived the Heritage Foundation healthcare plan and made it the law of the land in his state.

The plan we have now is not the plan Obama wanted. It's the plan he compromised on getting ... and it's a Conservative plan.

Conservatives loved the idea back in the 90's. They thought it was the best option available. The only reason they're against it now is because it kills them for Obama to go down in history as the president who brought national healthcare to America.

The Republicans will be blamed cause they are the ones responsible.

Of course, they don't bow to you Democrats demands, they get the blame...something wrong and sick with this and your party

but, what the hell is new from you cult members of the Democrat party...

you're all thugs, bullies and lowlifes that care about A GOVERNMENT program more than the people in this country

go kiss one of your masters pictures

Reid let the Senate vote twice on the House Continuing Resolutions.

Boehner still hasn't yet let the House vote on the Senate Continuing Resolutions.

Boehner and the GOP, are the thugs.

So you are saying that the ones who started this mess are the victims.

No, it would end if Obama granted common Americans what he did the big business 1% he despise. Not to mention, the congress exemption

Unlike many here, some don't wont the government telling them where and what they can do beyond the overreach they currently have

The Republicans will be blamed cause they are the ones responsible.

Really? By what assumption?

-Geaux
Because they started it by trying to defund obama care, a law that was passed by both houses and upheld by the supreme court and signed by the president into law.

All four branches concurred.

Are you saying it wasn't started by the republicans?

U PEOPLE NEED TO LAY OFF THE CRACK.
