History 101, Eisenhower got us in Vietnam. JFK was assassinated because he planned to get us out. Johnson realized he was duped by the industrial military complex and declined to run again. Tricky Dick promised to get us out, but kept us there another seven years, for the profits of the military contractors. And almost started WWIII with his plan to nuke Vietnam.

History 101. Eisenhower sent advisors into S Vietnam. JFK greatly escalated the war efforts following the 61 white pages. Where he increased aid and sent even more advisors. Then, LBJ A DEMOCRAT, A LIBERAL, escalated the war to hot following the gulf of tonkin incident.

Eisenhower sent advisors. That's how diplomacy works following a world war. They were aiding S Vietnem diplomatically to curtail northern communism which was spreading. The HOT WAR, the violence involving american troops, came to be under LBJ, and JFK aided that significantly following the 61 white papers.

First of all...it was sadly about 200K INCLUSING the combatants.

Secondly, no one takes pride in killing innocent people.

Third....the reason the war lasted so long is because of the willingness of men and women in uniform to adhere to the directive to avoid collateral damage at all costs...INCLUDING THEIR OWN LIVES.....
