Good, fast and one of the best at tapping. But in the long list of guitar heroes... he is mid range.
Compared to other guitarist out there - he didn't really develop anything new. Sure other bands emulated his styles, but it was styles other people already did before him.
Not to knock him, he was very good. And my understanding is he was a pretty good guy, and that is more important anyway.
