The UN Security Council is puzzled whether to urge the Sudanese government and Sudan Liberation Movement-North to sit for negotiations at the present time or delay its call till the situations clear up following the rebel attack on North Kordofan.

If the Security Council wants to urge the two parties to negotiate, it has to condemn the crime against humanity committed by the rebels otherwise Khartoum will never respond to its call.

The Security Council wonders about the purpose of supporting the rebels or the negotiation between the Sudanese governments and the rebels who fights without internal support following its aggression on the civilians and public institutions in Kordofan.

The international body has only poked its nose when it passed resolution No 2046 urging the Sudanese government and the rebels to negotiate. The resolution has tended to pressure Khartoum for more compromises regarding the disputed issues with South Sudan.


The negotiation between the Sudanese government and rebels is different from that of Naivasha 2005 which led to self determination and establishment of South Sudan state.

US envoy to UN, Suzan Rice who expected leave her post to assume the new post as security advisor will place emphasis on the negotiations between the Sudanese government and SLM-N. It is clear that US envoy has changed her tone following the rebel attack on North Kordofan.

If Washington ignores the flow of South Sudans oil stopped by Sudan due to Jubas support to the Sudanese rebels, it has provide millions of dollars to fill in the deficit and in the same time there is certainty about the rebel victory over the Sudanese army.

Khartoum is alert and ready for decisive battle with the rebel groups. The international community is in a mess !
