Senators call for 12-cent gas-tax increase to replenish highway fund

Maybe we just need to be grateful we are allowed to keep any money from our paycheck...

A real American, when faced with a small paycheck....would get a second job or start a business. Quit yer whining, patriot. Grab those bootstraps and pull!

Great... so Liberals wlll get a hard on for that check as well....
Because we just aren't taxed enough.
Government doesn't have enough money to spend.

Here's a thought, scrap the federal gas tax altogether and the let the states fund their own damn roads. Why does D.C. need to do it?

Because DC needs the money for everything but fixing the roads. It's like increasing taxes for schools For the KIds! Only they never get the money and and the kids keep getting dumber. For the Roads! No roads will be fixed because if they did get fixed people will stop wanting to pay more to fix them.

The government already makes more money on gas than the actual companies do that produce the shit. And even then they can't keep the highways in good order. What the hell would convince anyone paying the government even more is going to produce anything good? We would be better off if the oil companies were in charge of road repair. It would be cheaper and we would have good roads.

Liberals are so fucked up....
They always bitch the middle class is getting fucked over...
Then they are always in favor of the middle class paying more into the government spending
machine...

And the poor and working poor will be hit the hardest. But then, it's not like the left gives a shit about them.

Makes it pretty hard to pull when the government is standing on those boot straps. And about the time you think you may be able to wiggle those straps out from under them they add a new tax to keep them pinned down.

A real American would stand up and punch the shit out of a government fucking up their ability to use those boot straps. People like you on the other hand seem to think the more weight you can add to your straps the better off you will be. Actually reaching for those boot straps never even crosses your simple little mind.

Glad to see you are coming around to the realization that businesses in America give while the government takes.

And I believe we are still running a deficit.

3 tax cuts and two wars later
And yet, not a spending cut in sight.

hell no. We Americans are used to having our cake and eating it too..... then bitching about how it made us sick because we ate it..

eat up !

Just two policies dating from the Bush Administration — tax cuts and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan — accounted for over $500 billion of the deficit in 2009 and will account for nearly $6 trillion in deficits in 2009 through 2019 (including associated debt-service costs of $1.4 trillion). By 2019, we estimate that these two policies will account for almost half — over $8 trillion — of the $17 trillion in debt that will be owed under current policies.[7] (See Figure 2.) These impacts easily dwarf the stimulus and financial rescues, which will account for less than $2 trillion (just over 10 percent) of the debt at that time. Furthermore, unlike those temporary costs, these inherited policies do not fade away as the economy recovers.[8]

record levels? LOL

revenue was catching up until the housing bubble took a dive

I beg your pardon sir.

According to the Urban Institute-Brookings Institution Tax Policy Center, total federal tax receipts hit $2.57 trillion in 2007, before declining in 2008 and 2009, when the current recession was under way. (Tax revenues almost always sink during a recession.) The 2007 level was the highest recorded since 1934, when statistics were first collected.
