In the aftermath of the 2007 recession, President Obama invested in a massive stimulus. The Republican belief that markets are always good and government is always bad led them to argue that diverting resources to the public sector this way would have disastrous results. They were wrong: The stimulus worked, with the most reliable studies finding that it created millions of jobs. The fact that government stimulus works – long denied by Republicans (at least, when Democrats are in office) – is a consensus among economists, with only 4 percent arguing that unemployment would have been lower without the stimulus and only 12 percent arguing that the costs outweigh the benefits.

3. Taxing The Rich Doesn't Hurt Economic Growth.

Republicans believe that the wealthy are the vehicles of economic growth. Starting with Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, they tried cutting taxes on the rich in order to unleash latent economic potential. But even the relatively conservative Martin Feldstein has acknowledged that investment is driven by demand, not supply; if there are viable investments to be made, they will be made regardless of tax rates, and if there are no investments to be made, cutting taxes is merely pushing on a string. Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez, two of the eminent economists of inequality, find no correlation between marginal tax rates and economic growth.

Well.................we've been shown since the 80's that trickle down economics doesn't work (matter of fact Bush Sr. had to use "voodoo economics" which shifted the payday of the military from the 30th to the 1st because he wanted a budget surplus and used the September/October pay cycle to do that), and we even saw it when Clinton had a surplus (because he taxed people as they should have been) versus Jr. who saw the budget surplus and gave tax cuts to the rich, not only when he got into office, but also when we were in the middle of a war.

Most presidents don't give tax cuts in the middle of a war. Jr. did, and tried to appease most of the American people with his 300 dollar checks.

Too bad that we had some idiot put us into bankruptcy and tried to pass the bill onto his successor.

Raise the taxes, get rid of the subsidies, and put people back to work re-building this country.

$300 dollar checks or $85 billion a month to high-rollers in the DOW are both stimulus. Which one benefits the poor? What was the purpose of all of those $300 checks. To increase spending. How many jobs were saved because 150,000,000 taxpayers spent an extra $300? Nobody knows. All we know is the unemployment rate went down to less than 5% nationwide.


Raising taxes helps only the government, not the worker. If it did help workers then why is CA broke, and why are businesses leaving the state in droves.

What happens when you have money to spend? You spend it. If it's taken by the government only the government prospers. Businesses that produce suffer. Cutbacks are the first order of business, and jobs are the first to go. More disposable income equals a booming economy. Government limits the economy. Big government destroys the economy. Socialism limits economies, communism destroys economic growth. Not to mention that as long as the government has all of our money it can't be taxed.

Dragon Lady is from Ontario if I remember correctly. You really need to ask her about the Liberal Government who have been in power for many a year. Ask her how well Ontario is doing these days.



Ontario used to be what we call a "have province". They are now a "have not province" .

There is no such thing as trickle down economics, the ACA has absolutely killed jobs, and tax cuts (properly framed) did more to create jobs than Obama's stimulus.
