Partisanship derails thinking, but if you put it aside, there's an irony here. Schmidt's real calling was the insurgency campaign of McCain's straight talk express in 2000. Would McCain have spared us the Iraq debacle? I'd say probably not, since even then McCain was a bomb with a hair trigger. But, he's actually complaining about an insurgency in the gop. McCain ran on the premise that bushii was lying about his economic programs ... well, he was. And the tea party is a large response to that within the gop.

Steve Schmidt, a former top advisor to the McCain/Palin '08 Campaign has apologized for helping create the "Freak Show" Wing of the Republican Party.

Mr. Schmidt's comments came as part of a rant against what he calls the "Assininity" of the Republican Party.

Mr Schmidt expressed deep regret for his selection of 1/2 term Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate in the failed '08 Republican Presidential Campaign.


Mr. Schmidt's remarks to an Op-Ed by Sarah Palin praising Texas Senator (and Canadian By Birth) Ted Cruz and his attempts to defund the Affordable Health Care Act.

Mr. Schmidt, after the Debut of the HBO Movie "Game Change", a docudrama about the failed McCain/Palin Campaign, said that Sarah Palin was "Manifestly Ill-Prepared" to assume the Office of President of the United States, much the Office of Vice President.

Mr. Schmidt was one of the advisors who pushed for Palin, but came to see her selection as destructive to the campaign.
