The press didn't "spin and spin". Bill Clinton was the most successful and popular President since Eisenhower. Despite doing EVERYTHING that Republicans hate: raising taxes, raising the minimum wage, going after illegal immigrants, and balancing the budget, Americans saw the greatest increase in American jobs, GDP and wealth not seen since the 1950's. Republicans were losing on every score.

The Whitewater Investigation and the Starr Investigation found NOTHING which touched the President or his Administration. The Paula Jones lawsuit was dismissed "with prejudice", and the judge basically calling it frivolous and baseless. The whole "Clintons are corrupt" narrative that the Republicans tried to sell the American people, in part, as revenge for Iran Contra and Watergate.

Two out of three of the Republican Presidents elected since Eisenhower were plagued with serious scandals: Watergate and Cambodia for Nixon, and Iran Contra for Reagan. Republicans were desperate to take down a Democrat in the same way that Nixon had been politically destroyed. It was one of the most naked displays of partisan politics ever seen in history, and the American public were revolted by it. Republicans paid a horrific price at the mid-terms.

There has been NO EVIDENCE shown that Obama spied Donald Trump, and a whole lot of evidence that he didn't.

There is also reasonable and just cause to note that in all cases, Trump officials were contacting people the American security networks were surveilling: Russian spies, operatives and officials.
