I spend $300K/year just to keep my doors open. Regardless of my sales for any given year. The vast majority of my expenditures are subtracted from my taxable income.
If they weren't, I wouldn't be in business. Nor would my business expand.

Actually no, the contractor who built the development you live in paid for the street lights and the streets. Some cities have private fire departments, so that doesn't require taxes either.

Even though there are private fire departments, most have automatic or mutual aid agreements with neighboring cities and receive regular taxpayers monies.
