Syrian army retakes Palmyra from ISIS

The Russian military have given access to journalists from 11 countries to the liberated Syrian city of Palmyra. Moscow noted the absence of American journalists in the group.

Noticeably absent among the group were journalist from the US, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov noted. He said that four US-based media outlets cancelled their accreditation requests on the eve of the trip, “as if they were following an order.”.

The military success in Palmyra was met with muted response by officials in the US and some of its allies, who, Moscow said, tried to downplay its importance.

The defense Ministry has shown the Russian and foreign journalists of Russian sappers demining of the Syrian Palmyra. Now this world heritage monument is in fairly poor condition and is literally Packed with explosives.

Now almost all of historic Palmyra-belted red-and-white ribbons warning that the exit for them could have very serious consequences. The city is literally full of shells, mines, improvised explosive devices.

About one hundred experts are now working in the ancient city, daily picking from hundreds of steel splinters.Russian sappers to clear the historical part from mines and shells will take around a month. Thrown here by the best specialists and the most modern equipment.

Here’s the latest in the distance, dusty robot-sapper “Uranium 6”. Their trawls he’s shoveling piles of rubble and earth, in search of a deadly bookmarks. Between the ruins of Palmyra, listening through metal detectors every inch of the ground, gently moving people dressed in heavy protective suits olive green. Almost every day they are extracted from the land, around 150 explosive devices. As a rule, these unexploded shells, mines and improvised explosive devices.

Now explosions in the city heard almost every 10-15 minutes. Russian sappers find the bookmark and destroy them on the spot.

The Russian reconciliation center’s news bulletins will be posted in several foreign languages both on the Defense Ministry’s official website
http://eng.mil.ru/
and on global social networking sites

"Today we are starting to post the Russian reconciliation center’s news bulletins in several foreign languages both on the Defense Ministry’s official website and on global social networking sites," Konashenkov said, noting that after U.S. reporters had refused to go on a press tour around Syria, "the American media outlets suddenly stopped publishing information from daily news bulletins released by the Russian reconciliation center."

Until Thursday, "they were cited and published in U.S. news materials daily," the general said. Russia fails to know "the true reasons behind such paradoxical changes," he said. "But anyway, we are sure that U.S. society along with other countries’ citizens should not be restricted in their right to get unbiased information about developments in Syria."

After liberating Palmyra from terrorist group Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), Syrian forces are now preparing a similar operation for the country’s second-largest city, Aleppo, Russian agencies reported citing Syrian PM Wael Nader Halaki.

"We, together with our Russian partners, are preparing for an operation to liberate Aleppo and to block all illegal armed groups which have not joined or [which have] broken the ceasefire deal," Wael Halaki said Sunday, as cited by TASS and Interfax. Halaki added that Deir ez-Zor would be the next major target for Damascus after taking control of Aleppo.

Russian engineers have cleared around 180 hectares (about two square kilometers) in the ancient city of Palmyra, defusing some 3,000 bombs, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.

“Beginning April 1, over 30 kilometers of roads and more than 182 hectares of land have been demined; 2,987 explosive objects have been unearthed,” Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said at a teleconference at the National Defense Control Center. Russia’s armed forces have deployed a field hospital to Palmyra, the minister said.

“It’s fitted out with the most advanced medical equipment to operate autonomously for 30 days. If necessary, both the Syrian military and local citizens returning back home can address to that medical installation,”Shoigu said. “Personnel conduct reconnaissance and explosives clearance using high-tech robotic tools,”Shoigu said.

good ---the Syrian muslims can GO BACK HOME

Putin: if we want to stop the flow of refugees into Europe, for example, if we want people to want and be able to live in their home country and not flee abroad, we need to restore statehood where it had been lost. I was referring above all to Libya. We need to support and strengthen statehood in the countries where it still exists, and here, I am referring to Syria.

All we know is that western journalists tend to stab the back of their hosts with ugly and wicked pseudo-coverage as soon as they have left the place. Not this time: Broadminded, I overlook that despite his presence in Syria, the journalist doesn´t know the name of the Syrian Arab Army and is somehow paranoid, scents staging now and then. However, the report is this time about what the journalist actually saw and experienced in Syria during his visit. Particularly remarkable: A church in Al-Qaryatayn that ISIS used as headquarters and torture chamber.
The report is also about the easement and appreciation of the people, now, that the Syrian government and its allies restored security and stability to the liberated cities and the harmony that was common among the different religious orientations in Syria before the war.

Assad is the legitimate President and this is good. Liberations by the Syrian army are good. Those who do not see it that way usually shout "Allah akbar" on each occasion - for example when they launch a home-grown chlorine mortar shell.

Russian engineers have successfully completed clearing the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra of explosives left behind by Islamic State. Nearly 3,000 explosive devices on around 230 hectares (2.3 sq km) of the World Heritage site have been defused. "The task of clearing the architectural and historical part of Palmyra of explosives has been fully completed," the head of the Russian Army's engineering unit, Yury Stavitsky, reported from Syria to President Vladimir Putin on April,21.

In total, 2991 explosive devices, including 432 makeshift bombs, have been defused, the military official reported. Ninety-eight Russian servicemen have been involved in the effort, he added.

Russian sappers have been working not only at the historic site of Palmyra, but also helped to de-mine the modern city nearby. Nearly 370 buildings have been checked, the military official reported, adding that more than 1,400 explosives have been destroyed. The engineers will continue working in residential areas of Palmyra, Stavitsky said, adding that some 560 hectares (5.6 sq km) of urban areas and an airport still need to be combed for terrorists' explosives.

While the UNESCO World Heritage site and the residential area nearby were in the hands of IS, they had infested it with thousands of mines, which could potentially level the city in a matter of seconds. Approaches to the city and its residential quarters were rigged with explosives, which turned Palmyra into a huge "delayed action mine,"

While the Russian engineers along with the Syrian Army have been working in the city, efforts were made by restoration experts and organizations to decide on what can be done to bring Palmyra back to its former cultural glory. Earlier this month, a Russia-drafted resolution on the role of UNESCO in restoring the devastated ancient city was unanimously approved by the organization.

Russian military removes all mines & bombs in historic Palmyra

Russian combat engineers, clearing the Syrian city of Palmyra of explosives left behind by Islamic State jihadists, have discovered and defused “one of the largest jihadist arsenals” of more than 12,000 explosive devices.

"The warehouse was well-disguised and discovered through the use of special equipment, brought by Russian engineers to Syria,” General Igor Konashenkov, Defense Ministry spokesman, told reporters. “They have removed more than 12,000 explosive objects, including large-caliber mortar mines, artillery shells, as well as anti-tank mines and anti-personnel landmines, from the terrorists' cache."

He stressed that this is "one of the largest ammunition depots from which improvised explosive devices and bombs were used by ISIS for terrorist attacks not only in the province of Homs but in other areas of Syria just as well."
