Tell me . . .

No, some mistakes are life changing events. If some of you conservatives had your way, there would be TWICE as many poor people because you would allow people no opportunities at all to better themselves. Some of you don't want to make education more in reach, you don't want to pay into social services programs, and you want to force women to go through pregnancies that perhaps they cannot afford or don't want, and then what happens to all those little babies? Some of you really need to think things through because your approaches are completely unrealistic. We would have children and families and individuals dying inthe streets if you had your way. That is NOT the America that I want to see!

So do you like the America you are seeing now? An America where over one-third of our working age population is not working nor looking for work? An America nearly 20 trillion in debt and growing? An America where businesses can't find American workers and have to depend on foreigners? Is that the America you like?

They remained in the US as long as they could. But once somebody in their industry moves out of the country for lower wages and taxes, they begin to steal their customers. The US manufacturer has no choice but to leave as well. It's either move operations overseas, or join your employees in the unemployment line after you close down.

I have literally seen a boardroom full of grown men watching the weather channel with their fingers crossed hoping for a hurricane to turn inland so they can sell enough building materials to keep from having to shut a plant down or move some production operations overseas.

Let's examine this scenario. Now, you've taken away free healthcare, free birth control and other social service supports. A young person gets pregnant (because we all KNOW the young are impulsive and risk takers - the "nothing bad will ever happen to ME scenario). So they can't have an abortion because you've also made that illegal due to your religious beliefs or whatnot. Hmm. So, basically people are certainly no longer "free" or pursuing their own ideas of happiness.
It's all about choices.

So, are you claiming that you have only ever made good choices? Or that you are lucky and none of your choices resulted in anything bad happening to you?
Wrong again. For the 4th time in this thread. It's getting tiresome. I have made terrible choices. But I dug my way out of them and learned from them. I sure as hell didn't expect somebody else to pay for them.
I feel sorry for you, in a way.

You were lucky that you had some opportunities! Not everyone does! Jobs are not plentiful, and a lot of them are only part time and pay minimum wage! If you take away student loans and grants, then these people will not be able to support their families AND pay the outrageous amounts for tuition. You MUST be able to see how your ideas are not plausible.
Okay then. Good luck to you. You'll need it

Why good luck to me? Elaborate please. Your ideas make no sense. That is the bottom line. Your ideas save you 30 something dollars a year and harm a lot of people and the country. They are ignorant.

That businesses can't find American workers line is BS. Americans have and still do these jobs. The problem is, again, greed. Those employers do not want to pay even minimum wage for workers. They know they can take advantage of people who are illegal immigrants and they do.

Then when crimes rates rise, you will complain. Well, desperate people will do desperate things. You go ahead and save your 30 something dollars a month, cheapos.

Wow I try to be decent to you and your one size fits all utopian existence, and that's the rebuttal you present?
Instead of good luck, I leave you with this:
Kiss my ass dumshit.

Bullshit. GE pays no taxes. Stop the right wing talking points. If they weren't allowed to leave corporate profits and CEO pay just wouldn't be as high.

Higher wages and taxes mean lower profits true. But saying they had no choice is stupid. We were dumb to give them a choice. We gave them a choice. Ship jobs to where labor costs and taxes are low and ship their shit back? Are we stupid? If you want to sell your stuff here you have to make it here. It's just that simple.

But the way you frame your argument is totally disingenuous and flawed.

A. They had no choice? Bullshit. But of course a corporation is going to choose the cheapest option. They only care about one thing. And you want them to run the country?

B. They weren't taxed too much to survive. Who was? Give some examples.

Many union companies went bankrupt renigged on pensions and moved overseas on purpose

I'm a truck driver and one of our customers is a crate company. They construct crates for any size of job. They make little crates the size of a suitcase and crates the size of tractor-trailers.

They would frequently send us out to deliver these crates to companies moving out of the state or country. I used the opportunity to talk with supervisors and even company owners. You would be surprised at how many regretted leaving.

They remained in the US as long as they could. But once somebody in their industry moves out of the country for lower wages and taxes, they begin to steal their customers. The US manufacturer has no choice but to leave as well. It's either move operations overseas, or join your employees in the unemployment line after you close down.

In my experience, unions were the problem. In spite of multiple warnings from the company, the unions refused to back down and take wage or benefit reductions.
How did you feel when one year on labor day or memorial day bush tried to sneak in Mexican truck drivers but the truck unions stopped it from happening. Do you remember that?

They want to lower wages in every industry. If they can't send your job to Mexico they'll bring a Mexican in.

That's right. As soon as you let one import tariff free they all had to go.

And why did bush Romney McCain and the GOP give corporations going overseas tax breaks? That makes no sense.

That is an urban legend. Nobody gave anybody tax breaks to move overseas. If you would like, I can post my FactCheck.org article that explains it all.

The US allows companies to write-off moving expenses. It doesn't matter whether they move to another state or another country. That's the only tax write-off any company gets.

Eliminating that deduction will not stop one company from moving out or our country. Liberal and conservative economists all agree on this. That's because such a write-off pales in comparison to the advantages a company gains by moving out of state or country with much lower wages, taxation, and government regulations.

I don't want that kind of America. I am pro 2nd, but I don't want to have to fight off criminals. The fact of the matter is that your ideas do nothing to help others, only yourself. All the countries who do not have social services supports are 3rd world countries. All the functioning societies have social services supports. Now, I know you'd probably like to go back to the 1800s or whatever, but that is not realistic. Things are a lot different now.

They are ignorant! Think it through and if you have a modicum of intelligence and decency, you will see that!

Until the republicans decide to come join us in THIS century and acknowledge some of very real problem and apply common sense SOLUTIONS to these problems, I will never vote republican! Never!

You do realize that with some jobs the minimum wage is too high, just after high school I worked in a grocery store stocking shelves - I was paid eight dollars an hour, looking back that was overpaying for a job a monkey could do...
I knew it was the temporary job because I knew I wanted to move on to bigger and better things, see that's what makes America great or should I say made America great never be satisfied with the minimum…

You are correct. But it's not because of government, it's because of our social programs.

If you go to CraigsList and click the help wanted section, and then click "transportation" just check out the hundreds of jobs listed there.

If you scroll through the days jobs were posted, it's unbelievable how many jobs Americans won't take. So now, we have thousands of people who come here that can't read or speak a word of English driving vehicles that weight over 75,000 lbs right next to your family van on the highway. And trust me, as a professional in this field, these foreigners drive like shit. They are dangerous to other motorists and have no qualifications or ability to do that job.

The reality, again, is that some people are not going to be able to move up for whatever reasons. There have always been poor people. There will always be poor people. With our huge population explosion, we have MORE poor people. The reasons why they are poor are rather irrelevant unless you just want to play a blame game. However, you offer no solutions to any of our problems.

So let's say you are an 18 year old living with poor parents. What would you do? Step one would be get a job and save for a car. Next, clep test out of a year of college from home if you want to go to college. Then get your associates at a community college. Then you only have to worry about 2 years of college.

Or go to medical billing school or plumbers school or computer networking certification or maybe just get lucky and get a decent job at a decent company whatever. Point is find your nitch.

Step 3. Save money. If you save $10 a week or $25 a week, what is that over 50 years? People don't save.

If you have kids you can't afford why?

most problems are self-inflicted…

We don't know what REALLY suffering from poverty is in this country since we do have social services supports. In places where there are none, things can be really, really bad. I would say that 30 something dollars a year is totally worth it. It makes our country a better and a safer place.

And for you religious folks, I don't really think you follow the words of your god. Seems as if the Satan has your soul. ;) Lol.

Christian Child Sponsorship - Compassion

In the Bible, God speaks often of the poor and needy. He commands us to give generously to them and to speak up on their behalf.

To help you connect with God's heart for the poor, we have compiled this list of Bible verses that speak to how He asks us to relate to and serve the less fortunate among us.

Proverbs

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy

— Proverbs 31:8-9

Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court, for the Lord will take up their case and will exact life for life.

— Proverbs 22:22-23

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, "Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you"—when you already have it with you.

— Proverbs 3:27-28

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

— Proverbs 11:25
