The 51st state...

State rep calls for Chicago to be 51st State

suggesting that Illinois split into two states between the City of Chicago and the rest of the state - making Chicago the 51st state.

The idea is being put forth by Republicans due to the control that Chicago has on the state...

What do you all think?

Chicago doesn't control the state, the people control the state. Majority rules. This is just sour grapes that Illinoians don't want their platform.

So why stop there? Let's make a city-state out of every single municipality in America. Then, break up each municipality into football field size village-states so that the jerks on the other side of town can't "control" the rest of the state. And then we can go even further, turning every single American into a sovereign citizen constituting a nation of one. It's the only fair way to have liberty.
BS! Liberal scum politicians control the state.

The people elected them.
Not the same as controlling them. Be honest for once.

Democrats have controlled the City of Chicago since Anton Cermak was sworn-in as Mayor in early 1933.

Democrats have controlled surrounding Cook County for even longer.

Once the Era of White Flight (1945-1960) was over, what was left was merely an Inner City Plantation Ghetto...

But the rest of the State has bailed-out Chicago's arse so many times that the taxes have gone sky-high...

Which has inaugurated yet another Era of White Flight - escaping high taxes - that's still underway, on a grand scale...

In another ten years there won't be more than a dozen White Folk left in the entire State...

Which will leave plenty of room to expand the Democratic Plantation...

This is nothing more than red meat for the conservative base, proposed in bad faith, knowing that Chicago would never become the 51st ‘state,’ as neither the residents of Chicago nor Congress would consent to such a plan.

Not much. The GOP needs to focus on governing all of the people, all of the time - not spending their time doing the bidding for Wall Street and the very wealthy.

About now those who wanted to believe the Tax Bill signed by Trump would benefit the middle class are learning they will pay more this year than last, and their taxes - local, state an federal, along with new fees - will take more of their hard earned money as the years go by.

It's just as silly (and just as likely to happen) as splitting California or letting Texas secede.

Why is splitting California silly? There are a few states that were created by splitting off of a larger one.

The republicans are the minority in Illinois and think that if they get rid of Chicago they will have the majority.

It never occurs to them to find out why people don't support them and make real changes so people can support them.

All they want to do is get rid of the people who don't agree with their views.

The minority conservatives in California have been trying to do the same thing. After over 30 years of trying, they've failed every time.

The conservatives in Illinois will have the same results.

I'm all for that ... close off the borders, mine Lake Michigan, and starve 'em out.
P of course, there is the argument that GOP base is totally misinformed and clinically insane.

Not recently in any way.

Correct, it was a long time ago, but I don't know why that makes the idea silly. California is a huge state and could quite literally be its own country. Different sections of the state have different interests and needs, but the coastal crowd seems to dominate the agenda while the inland areas get ignored. Splitting it up isn't necessarily such a bad idea.

Lol. What happens to Illinois without Chicagoland ? Where do they get their money from ? Corn farmers outside of Urbana Champaign.. lol!

It's still not gonna happen. They would be giving up a huge amount of influence by dividing it up.
