If this is just an isolated incident, then this attack will have little impact on the campaign in Syria. However, incidents such this often have consequences. Russia announced that it would not be coordinating military activity in Syria with the US which certainly increases the likelihood of an accidental engagement. Although this attack may have destroyed or weaken Syrian ability to release chemical weapons from the air, those weapons still exist and there is little to suspect that these attacks will not happen again.

At this point we are on a very slippery slope in Syria and it is going to be increasing difficult for the US stay out of it.

The United Nations was suppose to verify it but Syria would not let them in. Susan Rice never said there was any verification. She just said Syria agreed to verification.
