The GOP would of course protest to the Supreme Court and anyone who violated such laws would be held to the fullest extent of the law.

Beyond that, it would further expose a Dem Party that is increasingly viewed as the outlier of democracy and the rule of law in the U.S.

I believe there is a strong chance it will happen just that way.

The USSC won't step in in the middle of an election. Even if one accepts the grand conspiracy of the USSC being full of MAGA radicals who will do whatever Trump wants them to, why would Trump care which particular Democrat he beats in 2024? If he does care, he certainly would never admit that he can't beat someone.

My guess is they pick Newsom or Whitmer, and let Harris keep the second banana slot as long as she keeps her mouth shut. Or have a Newsom/Whitmer ticket and offer Harris a seat on the Supreme Court if she endorsed them, and spend all of Biden's money.

Don't forget that many Biden pledges have been frozen, so those monies can be easily and legally be given by the donors to the new ticket. A new ticket could raise money pretty quick.
