The dreaded gay-wedding-cake saga ends: bakers must pay 135 K
I think the title of this thread is incorrect. The word "ends" should be "begins". Hasn't the OP heard of the federal appeal system? Wait....of course he has! His cult just manipulated it all the way to the top.
There is no appeal to the federal court system for a case based solely on state law.
There is if it forces someone to abdicate their 1st Amendment rights. You betcha. Annnnndddd you're going to find that out in the coming weeks and months.

It would be a nice gesture if the lesbian couple turned down the award and announced that they won the point and they don't wish to ruin a small business but that's not the way the angry sodomite community operates. The lesbian couple probably could find a dozen friendly bakers but they shopped around for discrimination and the original intent was to punish and ruin the business.

The 134K was their point.
Their point was to make sure the next asshole who thinks about discriminating against gay people understand that there will be a cost. That is, in fact, the point of these types of laws; to discourage unacceptable behavior.

There are many ways to discourage unacceptable behavior. Gays should be subjected to all of them.

The bakery should bake the cake, then protest the forced labor at the wedding itself.

Forced labor at the wedding? Please explain.

If they are forced to provide labor and artistic talent for the wedding cake that's forced labor. The place to protest that is obviously not where the baker can be punished for it, it's where the baker still retains some free speech rights, at the wedding itself. Like any other protester, on the sidewalk. The baker, florist, photographer will always know where the wedding is, they are forced to participate. Take advantage of what they are given.

I'm such a bitch, that the couple could show up for the design appointment and find both the baker and designer picketing their own bakery. Sell them the cake, with a very high emotional price.

They can believe anything they want, and classify it as anything they want, but if they do business with the public, they still have to bake the cake.

Why would you want to put money in the pocket of someone who hates you?

I keep hearing that from the right, but that's not really what it's about. That's a great bumper sticker, but really immaterial in this situation.

I just ran across this and posted in a new thread. this gets WORSE.

SNIP:

Aaron and Melissa Klein ordered not to talk publicly about their faith.
Oregon imposes gag order on Christian bakers in gay wedding case
By Dan Calabrese -- Bio and Archives July 3, 2015

In the ruling, Avakian placed an effective gag order on the Kleins, ordering them to “cease and desist” from speaking publicly about not wanting to bake cakes for same-sex weddings based on their Christian beliefs.

“This effectively strips us of all our First Amendment rights,” the Kleins, owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, which has since closed, wrote on their Facebook page. “According to the state of Oregon we neither have freedom of religion or freedom of speech.”

The cease and desist came about after Aaron and Melissa Klein participated in an interview with Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins. During the interview, Aaron said among other things, “This fight is not over. We will continue to stand strong.”

Lawyers for plaintiffs, Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer, argued that in making this statement, the Kleins violated an Oregon law banning people from acting on behalf of a place of public accommodation (in this case, the place would be the Kleins’ former bakery) to communicate anything to the effect that the place of public accommodation would discriminate.

The specific order reads: “The Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries hereby orders [Aaron and Melissa Klein] to cease and desist from publishing, circulating, issuing or displaying, or causing to be published … any communication to the effect that any of the accommodations … will be refused, withheld from or denied to, or that any discrimination be made against, any person on account of their sexual

all of it here:
Oregon imposes gag order on Christian bakers in gay wedding case

I know you only have two brain cells, so this may be difficult to understand, but do try to keep up....

Oregon has a state law that prohibits businesses from discrimination against homosexuals. They also have a law that prohibits the same businesses from presenting any form of communication that discrimination will occur. In other words, a sign that says "No blacks allowed" is just as much discrimination as actually waiting for the black person to enter the store and then kicking him out.

The court order in question refers to the owners continued insistence in public that they will discriminate against homosexuals.

“The Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries hereby orders [Aaron and Melissa Klein] to cease and desist from publishing, circulating, issuing or displaying, or causing to be published … any communication to the effect that any of the accommodations … will be refused, withheld from or denied to, or that any discrimination be made against, any person on account of their sexual orientation,” Avakian wrote.

Sweet Cakes final order Gresham bakery must pay 135 000 for denying service to same-sex couple OregonLive.com

Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian on Thursday ordered the owners of a former Gresham bakery to pay $135,000 in damages to a lesbian couple for refusing to make them a wedding cake.

Avakian's ruling upheld a preliminary finding earlier this year that the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa had discriminated against the women on the basis of their sexual orientation.

Bakery owners Melissa and Aaron Klein cited their Christian beliefs against same-sex marriage in denying service. The case ignited a long-running skirmish in the nation's culture wars, pitting civil rights advocates against religious freedom proponents who argued business owners should have the right to refuse services for gay and lesbian weddings.

Avakian's final order makes clear that serving potential customers equally trumps the Kleins' religious beliefs. Under Oregon law, businesses cannot discriminate or refuse service based on sexual orientation, just as they cannot turn customers away because of race, sex, disability, age or religion, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries said in a news release.

"This case is not about a wedding cake or a marriage," Avakian wrote. "It is about a business's refusal to serve someone because of their sexual orientation. Under Oregon law, that is illegal.

"Within Oregon's public accommodations law is the basic principle of human decency that every person, regardless of their sexual orientation, has the freedom to fully participate in society. The ability to enter public places, to shop, to dine, to move about unfettered by bigotry."

So, when do the cries of evil, evil, evil ZOG persecution begin?
And when will this all be Obama's fault?
And when does the GoFundMe account go up?
Anyone know how much delicious icing 135 K can buy?

No mudslinging, folks! But you may throw delicious icing. :D
you are such a callous rotten human being. Cheering putting people out of business over a fucking cake. and this happened awhile back. why is it being REPOSTED? We know why. you can't go without stirring up crap
You seem angry. Never said I was cheering. Try again, staph infection. And if you don't like it, then tough shit for you.

Oh really? Then Christians do not behave a certain way? lol

The concepts of inductive and deductive reasoning are kind of new to you...eh?

.

You're deflecting because you've lost the argument. No, someone losing an argument to me is not new.

That was not a deflection. It was to the point. Because you do not understand that it was to the point is ... sort of a cry for help..

Let's go back to the beginning. You wish me to choose between Christianity being either a race or a behavior. I chose neither. Obviously you classify Christianity as a behavior and I do not classify Christianity as a behavior. Let's work on that first. I classify Christianity as a belief system. You should be familiar with the concept. I am sure you have beliefs of some sort. Care to share them with us?

.

They can believe anything they want, and classify it as anything they want, but if they do business with the public, they still have to bake the cake.

Go ask Paint how far that line of reasoning took him. It is earlier in the thread.

I'm sure a lot of right wing nuts disagreed with him, but that doesn't mean it isn't a valid point. They are homophobic right wing nuts. They disagree with everything.

Nope, those diversion-remedies aren't going to work. No "diet-protests" from Christians to be abandoned and ultimately the cult of LGBT replaces Christian values with time....no..no, that won't do.

This one is going right straight back up to the US Supreme Court. The 1st & 9th Amendments vs the cult of LGBT and SCOTUS' June 26, 2015 brand new amendment (race = some of their favorite deviant sex behaviors) to the Constitution.

When will a muslim baker be fined for refusing to make a gay cake, or a Christian cake, or a rebel flag cake?

the double standard from the left is just pathetic, and very dangerous to this country.

Yes and bought the dress on eBay complete with stains to add to your collection, right?

Weddings are a particularly stressful time. Vendors can easily increase the stress, give gays an emotional price to pay that is higher than they would pay somewhere else.

Sorry "tipsy"...only a lawsuit and appeal to SCOTUS will solve this one. And they're already underway.

Christians lay down and take it. So they make better targets. Don't worry though, the conservatives have assembled a bevy of lawyers to take this one back to SCOTUS. Lawyers aren't so accomodating..they can be worse than muslim terrorists...lol.. :scared1:

Like I said, their false premise "race is the same as (just some of the Court's favorite) behaviors" is about to be dissected very deeply. They thought they'd get around that with last Friday's Ruling. The dissenting opinions are going to come to the fore on the 1st & 9th Amendment issue.

Don't worry the ISIS flags on cakes have not been banned so they will be happy for a while..

Can not get a Confederate flag on a cake, but can get a gay themed cake or a cake supporting ISIS. So all is right in the far left world..

There is no such thing as a gay wedding cake. Only gay customers
(joke)

On the first wedding cake, it read " Adam and Eve" Not "Adam and Steve"

Is it not enough for you libs to ruin the sanctity of marriage

You want to ruin the sanctity of wedding cakes!! How Dare You!!

The bride and groom were harmed? What is the worst someone is liable for if they forget to deliver said cake? The penalty is out of line with the supposed offense. Most people go to several shops before picking who will make their wedding cake. There was only a preponderance of harm in this case. There was also a preponderance of NOT having to make a cake for gays as their marriages are not recognized in quite a few states and it ran contrary to their religious beliefs.
