The Lazy Poor

.

This goes far beyond "the poor" in the big picture.

When we lower standards, when we lower expectations, when we make excuses for others, when we spend more effort in building some artificial "self esteem" than we do motivating others to exert real effort and reach their potential, we're hurting people in both the short term and the long term. How we don't see that is an abject mystery to me.

The worst part is that the above actions have become ingrained of our culture, and our decay will continue until we find a way to reverse it. Personally, I don't see how that happens.

.

There's not enough to go around for everyone to reach their potential. We're already graduating thousands from college who can't find jobs in what they were educated for.

That is the grim reality at its most basic level.

no if welfare was like it was back in the day when Roosevelt first started it, the wouldn't be lazy. they would be of building the infrastructures. roads, bridges, damns, all sorts of public works. how did the liberals let this program fall apart so badly?

why do you speak against what Jesus preached?

Is it government schooling that taught you that making stuff up is the equivalent of responding to actual posts?

It sure is a time saver....

You might benefit from this:

"Let me give you a little tip: if you want liberalism to continue in this country, you have to realize that liberal students are being let down by their professors! They have liberal school teachers, and read the liberal press! Because of this weak preparation, they are unable to argue, to think beyond the first knee-jerk impulse. They can’t put together a logical thought. Now, compare that to a college Republican…"
Ms. Coulter.

LOL. Since I am in college right now, I have some definate impressions of your college Republicans. They talk like PC, and bomb out of calculus and science classes. You see, those classes require real logic, not the false sophistry that PC presents.

And then they state that all the scientists are liberals, and really don't know anything, anyway. What duds.

It is obvious that Democratic policies for the poor are not working

How can Republicans exploit this situation?

How about you offer an alternative to poor people? Start to offer jobs and job training to the poor. Have Republicans become a fixture in poor neighborhoods where they mentor poor families, help them find work, offer assistance if they fail

Let poor people start to say....I escaped poverty because of Republicans

How about it Republicans? Why don't you do it?

OK. I like the idea of another WPA. So let's propose it, with all the safeguards of the original WPA, and see who opposes it. Want to guess who will be calling is socialism, and fighting the whole idea, just like last time?

Just a real time observation from a liberal that is nearly 70, packing a full time job, and paying his own way through college. An observation about kids, 20 to 30 who, for the most part, are riding on Daddy's money.

Reinstitute the CCC's, WPA, and charge import fees based on the other nations labor and environmental laws.

You don't know the meaning of the word "poor" until and unless you experience being all alone, by yourself, without family and without a penny in your pocket. And for good measure not being able to speak the language of the country where you are.

That was me, in 1957, a barely 18 year old immigrant.

Since then, until I retired in 2003, I spent roughly six weeks unemployed, back in the early 1960's.
I never turned to anything dishonest, never spent a minute in jail. Once I learned enough English to be confident, I enrolled in high school as a mature student, lived on my savings for ten months, got my high school diploma, became a highly successful computer programmer, which was my last job.

I never became what you might call "rich", but I am comfortably retired. The last time I saw "poor" was when I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, which I did two weeks a year, for 13 years.

Those who are yakking about being poor in America, are hypocrites.

Yes, however, those that are riding on Daddy's money tend to be Republican, and spout Ayn Rand and Ann Coultier nonsense. And fail in math and science. Those subjects take the kind of work ethic you find among those that work for a living.

WPA works for me. Lets find some shovel ready projects

Let Republicans go into poor neighborhoods with solid job prospects. Real jobs that people can support a family on

The poor will vote Republican forever

Why don't Republicans put their money where their mouth is?

put back the quota's on imports too. I'm all for it. we used to have a system that worked. we should go back to it. and i don't care which side opposes it. who ever does, needs to go

whiy don't the dems? it is dem leaders elected in those poor neighborhoods. shouldn't they be the ones stepping up to the plate in their communities? actually benefitting the people who voted for them.

At least I work on my feet and not on my back.

Obfuscation #5? 6?

No better 'white flag' from you dim-wits that the resort to some sort of derogatory sexual half-wit comment.
Wow...it sure was macho.

The thing you should be working on is your education.

The queen of insults throws a tantrum when she gets a taste of her own medicine.

How great is that?

I think you meant to respond to TDM here.
