The Reprehensible Right: Huckabee calls for repeal of 17th Amendment

Something must be done to end the corruption and rigging of elections that enable Senators to rig/bribe/corrupt their way into serving 40 years in the senate.

How about Citizens United v. FEC and CU v. McCutcheon go the way of Drew Scott and Plessy? And that real reform, not the fake shit the R's proposed on health care and soon on tax reform, making every dime donated to a campaign be accounted for by name of the person who donated. No money should be given to anything put before the voters without full transparency of who paid for it. No longer can money be given to a ballot measure or a candidate from "The American people who love apple pie, baseball and God"

Is it your wish to ban political speech by media corporations? The court found that differential treatment of media corporations and other corporations cannot be squared with the First Amendment.

The First Amendment prohibits Congress from fining or jailing citizens, or associations of citizens, for engaging in political speech including corporations. Also, first Amendment protections do not depend on the speakerā€™s ā€œfinancial ability to engage in public discussion.ā€ All speakers, including individuals, corporations, and the media, use money amassed from the economic marketplace to fund their speech.

The court found, that speakers (corporations) may have influence over or access to elected officials does not mean that those officials are corrupt and THAT'S the source of the problem right there. Elected officials having rigged their re-election for decades, seeking out corruption opportunities.

Bullshit. Using the same logic attacking Mueller and his team, the five who overruled The Congress were all conservative Republican's, and appointed by Republican Presidents. They defended their real base, corporate america at the expense of We the People.

ā€œFormer Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Friday called for the repeal of the 17th Amendment and the return to senators selected by state legislatures after the Senate GOP's effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare died in a late-night vote.ā€

Huckabee calls for repeal of 17th Amendment after healthcare failure

Such advocacy of ā€˜repealā€™ is made in bad faith, of course ā€“ motivated by rightist partisanism given the majority of the states are controlled by Republicans.

Needless to say, if a majority of the states were controlled by Democrats, we wouldnā€™t hear anything from the reprehensible right about ā€˜repealingā€™ the 17th Amendment.

Oh my Allah, how dare he suggest following the United States Constitution.

You Nazis will not have it!

They defended the Bill of Rights, moron, and that's why you hate them. You want government to decide who gets to speak and who doesn't.

Why would you have a problem with term limits for Senators?

Would you go to a surgeon with little experience, or choose one with lots of experience? Would you to a fertilizer salesman, or an attorney for legal advice?

Huckabee is neither a surgeon, a salesman, or an attorney. Well he might be an attorney, I don't know. But he has had experience governing a state and running for President.

And he failed at both.

It might also be useful to restrict funding of campaigns for state and local offices to in-state sources only. Michael Bloomberg and George Soros, for example, have no business funding such candidates in states in which they do not live.

Would you include the Koch brothers in that?

The POINT of the Senate was to limit the potential for mob rule from the directly elected house of representatives.

Going to direct elections for the Senate was stupid.

I don't like Huckabee, and will never forgive him for his role in getting McCain the REpublican nomination, but he has a valid point here.

Huckabee? I suspect he's feeling forgotten, even his daughter gets more attention than does he. Pity him, he's a loser lusting for attention.

YES!

The election in Georgia was the most despicable case of open corruption I have ever seen. California fascists including Jeff Bezos (Owner of the Washington Haterag) openly tried to buy an election in a state they are not citizens of and have no stake in.

His point, and the hidden agenda at work here, is the on going attack on democracy by extreme conservatives who now occupy 5/9ths of the Supreme Court, The Congress and the Idiot-in-Chief.

Too much free speech, eh?

Only fools and the willfully ignorant equate the two CU decision about free speech. Four of the nine justices saw it for what it is (and the other five knew exactly what they were doing). The former protected our democratic institutions, and the latter put the final nail into the coffin of Democracy in America.

You know what I think Todd, I think you're one of the fools, an actually believe the Big Lies and propaganda elicited by the forces which fear the hoi polloi, and believe they are the elite to be served by the many.

Why do you get to decide that someone cannot release a film about Hillary within a certain number of days before an election?

The former protected our democratic institutions,

By limiting free speech. No thanks!

Yep, that was the whole point of the Senate, to limit democracy (mob rule). Were the men who wrote the Constitution "extreme conservatives?"

For state elections? Of course. But then, they don't fund in state elections so it's a moot point.

Every example of the People having the vote translates to 'mob rule' with the RW'ers.
