The Republican war on the Poor

You don't even have a solution outside of throwing families onto the streets. How would you solve this without hurting people?

By showing families that they are the only ones responsible for how they live or what they earn.

Teach them hard work.

How about we teach people to budget in school?

Teach people correct principles and they will govern themselves. The idea that we need to turn over more and more power to the government to fix personal problems is wrong.

All Avatar solutions include handing someone a self help book or slapping them with it. Such Wow

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that empowering people not government is the solution. After all, even I can see that.

So why do you keep thinking you can fix problems by empowering government and enslaving people to it?

You unerstand someone gets hurt every time you change something, right?

Spoken like a true conservative. Fear Change!

Which, of course, is why all the progressives are screaming about how all the people recieving food stamps should be afraid of Republicans because they are getting $10 less a month.

Conservatives aren't afraid of change. We are the ones proposing real changes.

Obviously you don't know what the word conservative means or just pretending

Hyperbole

Self help books aren't the answer. When you are talking about a Nationwide problem...Nationwide reading books isn't a solution. How about everyone just love each other...Obviously if everyone did then it wouldn't be a problem.

Now you might say that's silly but tell me how teaching everyone to be better and teaching everyone to love one another is any different

ok, and then do what with them?
have a bunch of educated welfare bums? Under Obama we've had SIX YEARS of over 7% unemployment...we already have people with college degrees working at McDonalds, etc because there are NO JOBS

Conservatives seem to think of the great recession and the ensuing financial meltdown like it was some kind slightly oversized speed bump in a 15 mph school zone which unduly bucks a driver who drove a mere 5 mph over the speed limit.

WRONG!

The hit to our economy was more like a huge pot hole in the middle of a turnpike. Therefore, it should be no shock to ANYONE that the damage to our economy was serious and will take several years to recover from. It wouldn't surprise me if it takes well over a decade. And what are we trying to recover from? In part, it's conservative supply side economics, massive deregulation which conservatives also championed, and globalization which was embraced by both political parties to help enrich the already rich who, by the way, are doing quite fine even as most everyone else is just barely getting by.

The economy isn't recovering, because you wont let it recover.

See the reason the free market is the best system out there is because it regulates itself. If people begin to be corrupt within the system it corrects itself with a downturn. And through the downturn people can fix the mistakes that created the downturn.

But as long as you keep handing power over to government to prevent us from having a downturn, the downturn gets 1) longer and 2) doesn't correct because you keep supporting the corruption that created the problem to begin with.

There is a reason the 1920 Depression, which was far more serious than the Great Depression and our Great Recession is barely remembered in history. It's because instead of turning to the government to "fix" it. The people had the government cut taxes, cut spending and got it out of the way so they could do as they please for their own benefit.

The problem is instead of a limited government, you've got the progressives of both parties pushing for bail outs which is just reinforcing corrupt business behavior and preventing the economy from reseting.

The longer we uphold corruption and prevent the reset, the more difficult it will be to reset. People are going to be hurting alot because the government keeps trying to prevent reset and instead rewards the people who are screwing things up.

Bullshit.

Nonsense. A free market no more regulates itself than the lawless West of the 1800s policed itself. An unregulated market allows the powerful to dominate the weak in what would essentially be deemed an abusive relationship if we were talking about a marriage of unequals.

And the downturn wasn't prevented. It was merely cushioned. And I say that because if the conservative prescription of self-correction was followed, numerous banks would have failed, the car companies would have failed, their suppliers would have failed, and the unemployment would be approaching the numbers of the great depression with no hope of any real recovery ever happening because foreign businesses would have moved in to buy the assets of our car companies at a decreased valuation even as they also grabbed an even greater market share of the American market as Americans share of both the domestic and international car market shrank to numbers so insignificant that they would have had an asterisk next to them.

One of our national problems is the ideological bent of conservatives who embrace economic theories that simply don't work in the real world.

For example, austerity will only lead to more job losses and lower wages if public sector spending is reduced in an economy which is already experiencing reduced private sector spending. The deficit hawks need to realize that cutting the deficit has to take a back seat to priming the economic engine of this country, especially at a time of historic low interest rates.

So, if there's any group that's preventing a recovery, it's House Republicans who refuse to pass a jobs bill.

Neg rep for extreme duncitude.
But I'm glad you mentioned it.
Yes, every change will help some people and hurt others. Libs like to pretend that without gov't people will flail around helplessly in the street. The truth is that given proper incentives people will take care of themselves. But libs always focus on people who are likely to lose whatever. And to them that means they will starve in the street. Nevermind that doesn't happen. But they fear-monger to continue and expand programs that are demonstrated failures.

We as a nation need to focus on educating our poor. Just as important as we need to reform our educational system with one of the top 5 systems....

17th is bull shit.

There were other recessions post war that were as bad or worse. Recovery time was much less. Recovery was much stronger.
If Obama had not been hiring people to make the pothole bigger we wouldn't be in this mess. Obama's recovery is worse than Bush's recession.

Join the reality-based world. I'm not saying you'll like what you see because you probably won't. But removing your blinders and knowing the real world as it truly is is better than living in a false world where you're someone else's puppet because you're dancing to someone else's tune.

Ironic coming from a veteran of Obama's knee pad brigade.

Absolutely right. Conservatives apparently like to think our complex technological economy is like a garage start-up company. It's not. There's a ripple effect in any major disruption and it is what it has become because of constant, unrelenting pressure to maximize profit at the expense of stability. Now that the cracks are becoming apparent, they would like to ignore all of this and 'return' to a simplistic time that probably never existed.

I see. So left alone , Kraft, would mix shit in its Velveeta. Right?

And WHO regulates the regulators?

And who will protect us from the protectors?

Ask the Davidians and the 2,400,000 million prisoners.

Ask those who are subjected to TSA abuses?

You are one retarded stupid motherfucker.
