The Virginia House passes "personhood" bill

Contraception has nothing to do with the bill, which is why an amendment keeping it legal is stupid and unneccessary. It would be like a law which outlaws murder and then some idiot asks for an amendment which makes it legal to keep breathing.

Contraception, by definition, prevents conception.

This law has to do with what happens after conception, not before.

I also noticed the law says "unborn child", which is wide open to interpretation. Leave it to lefties to interpret that to mean "prior to conception".

The morning after pill is a form of contraception.

Leave it to a rightie not to get that.

“This bill requires every single code section in Virginia that uses the word ‘person’ to apply to a fetus,” Del. Jennifer McClellan (D-Richmond) said. “That opens families and doctors to a wide variety of criminal and civil lawsuits for health-care decisions not only in cases of unwanted pregnancies, but every pregnancy and even miscarriage.”

The House rejected a floor amendment by Del. Vivian Watts (D-Fairfax) that would have ensured that contraception would remain legal.

Do you know what "contraception" means?

Do you know what fetus means?

Can you quote me the part of the bill which uses the word "fetus"?

All right? You pro-abortionists are inventing hysteria. Making shit up. Lying through your teeth.

This whole "birth control is outlawed in this bill" thing is total bullshit left-wing propaganda designed to frighten the rubes.

Too fucking bad for you there are people who don't play along and decide to READ the fucking bill.

This is how the propaganda machine works. The bill in no way even approaches outlawing birth control. But if you want to scare the rubes, you have to make them believe it does. So you introduce a totally non sequitur amendment to keep birth control legal.

The amendment gets turned down for being a non sequitur, but that is not the point.

Now you get to say, "If it doesn't ban birth control, why did they defeat an amendment to keep it legal?"

The answer to that question is, "Because it does not make it illegal in the first place."

But you wouldn't know that unless you read the bill for yourself instead of taking the word of the propaganda machine and its parroting nimrods.

This bill will outlaw birth control and abortion.

why birth control?

if no pregnancy occurs.... no "person" is involved.

Because it's a "lifestyle" choice. If women have birth control, they will run out into the streets and have orgies with every passing stranger. Gang bangs will become the new "date night". All because of contraception versus the fear of having babies.

More GOP small government? OMG

Va House set to enact mandatory invasive ultrasound probe for women who seek abortions

By Associated Press, Published: February 13

RICHMOND, Va. — House of Delegates Republicans have rejected a last-ditch bid by Democrats to allow women seeking abortions to opt out of an invasive ultrasonic procedure under anti-abortion legislation set for a final House vote Tuesday.

Legislation that has advanced on the strength of a GOP majority would force women to undergo a “transvaginal ultrasound” that produces fetal images.

An amendment by Del. David Englin, D-Alexandria, would have allowed medical professionals to determine whether images can be obtained without being penetrated by equipment used in the ultrasound.

Women would have to give written consent to such a probe under Englin’s amendments, but not to sonograms that are not invasive. The amendment failed on 64-34 vote, setting the bill up for final House passage.

oooooooooooooo...INVASIVE ULTRASOUND PROBE

During a transvaginal ultrasound, your doctor or a medical technician inserts a wand-like device (transducer) into your vagina while you lie on your back on an exam table.

Well, that’ll make a woman think twice about exercising her right to privacy.

The right has gone from ‘small government’ to invasive government.

well don't move to that state.

If its the case of rape or mothers life, ill support abortion only under those terms only.otherwise,im prolife totally.

Oh guud freaking gawd. SHUT UP and THINK.

I swear, reading your posts is enough to make anyone believe in retroactive birth control because you don't have a friggin clue.

How many babies have you given birth to?

As soon as you can say you have gotten pregnant, then and only then are you entitled to an opinion on this issue.

So, as soon as women find out they are pregnant, they can file the fetus as a dependent on their taxes.

The heck with that -

She can file papers of incorporation because, as we all know, "corporations are people, my friend".

Don't want to hijack this thread, but, just as when McCain tossed it around, my stomach turns over every time I hear that weasel say "my friend".

Really? than why didn't the Obama shut the hell up and keep his nose out of our business?
He hasn't had a baby, I don't think

You repeat yourself. "Birth control" and "abortion" are reduntant terms for some women.

Since millions of women have used abortion as their birth control, this is actually a factual statement as long as it is understood that one form of birth control (abortion) would be outlawed, and not all forms of birth control.

Besides lushbo and baby huey beck, what PROOF do you have of this?

Fact is, 2/3 of all abortions are medically necessary and are NOT the choice of the woman.

It always amazes me that some people really do seem to believe that women WANT abortions. Or choose abortions lightly and easily.

They do not.

you can't outlaw birth control OR abortion. both are constitutionally protected.

you've heard of the constitution, right?

you might want to have a gander at Roe v Wade and Griswold v Connecticut.

good luck with that.

that's a lie.
and the reason many women choose abortion so easily is PP and other have propagandized it as a walk in the park.
not until AFTER they have had their abortions they are wracked with guilt for going through with..and even if they did think it through, most can still be left with a feeling of deep loss for killing their child..

So you all defending it, as a woman's choice, yep it is..but not many of you (and especially men...sorry to MOST of the guys here) will never know the mental side affects of it, nor does it seem you care.

Right from you article Christina!

First, I could see how one might think it could infringe on abortion, but it says nothing about banning abortion. So it's a leftist red herring to shoot down a bill.

Second, it says NOTHING on birth control and couldn't even go there. It only shows your intellectual dishonest to try to say this has anything to do with birth control.

Neg!

Marshall said his bill, modeled after legislation in Missouri, would not affect birth control, miscarriages or abortions but would affect the way that courts define a person. For example, parents could receive damages for the death of a fetus in a wrongful death lawsuit.

“To claim using birth control will get you in trouble with this statue is simply false,’’ Marshall said. “It does not have the affect of criminalizing birth control. This does not directly effect abortion.’’

On Monday, the Senate advanced a bill that would allow a fetus to be considered a person in a civil wrongful death lawsuit. Only the pregnant woman, or in the event of her death, her representative or the father of the fetus could sue over the fetus's death. A final vote on the bill is expected Tuesday.
