This will certainly upset the right wing "christians."

Name that holiday? This Maryland school district won't

See, when you push for religion in the public sector. There are other beliefs that work, pay taxes and have deeply convictions in their religious ideology.
How do exclude those individuals?
So, no one is taking your right away to worship. What is happening is your right to force any and all of your religious ideologies onto others.
"Currently, the thousands of Muslim staff and students (within Montgomery County Public Schools) have to choose between their education and observing their religious practices," says a statement on the website of the Equality for Eid Coalition, which has been advocating for Montgomery County to close school on Muslim holidays. "They either skip school (an excused absence) to celebrate Eids or they skip their religious observances to attend school. Many choose to do the latter. However, this is not a choice that, for the most part, our Christian and Jewish neighbors face on their high holidays."
Hey..Your side is reaping what it has sown.
You lefties have been furthering the cause of freedom FROM religion. Now that a school district has granted your wish, you are now claiming "NO FAIR! Do over!"?
I don't fucking think so....
Tough shit if the Muslims are insulted. So are believers of all the other religions represented.
Tough shit. Deal with it....

Yeah...we get it....your religion is the only one that counts.

There is no problem. The problem is with the conservatives wanting to have their so-called holidays.
Get rid of them all or include others.
That is the solution of what the conservatives don't want to hear.

So the solution is to eliminate all and any "religious" holidays.
But which do you keep other than the religious. You mentioned a few.
The solution,,, to what?
You haven't establish that there is a problem.

Well, there's no reason to get upset over something so profoundly foolish.

That school board needs to be impeached entirely... removed from office and a new board installed immediately, which repeals that decision and tells Islam that this nation rests upon Judea-Chistrian values and that we could not possibly care LESS about how Islam, feels about ANYTHING.

Which would be the government DISCRIMINATING against ISLAM... with whom the US is presently AT WAR.

See!! Just as it was posted.

OH I thought the OP said we'd be upset.

We're no more upset about that, than we were when Islam attacked us and killed 3000 innocent people... .

Treachery and subversion is what one should reasonably expect of evil. Getting upset when it happens, is counter-productive. The correct response is to simply slap it down and let it know that evil will not be tolerated.

It will then go find a place where evil IS tolerated.

How do ya think it ended up doing SO WELL in the waste-lands of the Middle East?

How does this equate with the right to worship a belief and not having others tell you that your religion is not acceptable.
Seems you might enjoy the wastelands.

As I said: You haven't shown there['s a problem that needs a solution.

Your complaint centers around certain religions having to choose to go to school or observe their holidays, while Christians do not have to make that choice because the state closes schools so Christians can observe those holidays. This was shown to be false, both in terms of the state closing schools so Christians can observe them as well as Christians never having to make a choice.

And so, there is no problem here.

The problem is how the conservative right had concocted it into their thinking and their political ideology.
While the rest of us know full well that following a religion is fine, as long as you don't try to shove it into our faces.
et tu brute?

I'm not sure why you refuse to understand that you're wrong, at lest as far as the example and the argument laid out on the OP -- the school does not close so that Christians can observe holidays; Christians, like everyone else, have to choose between going to class and observing their holidays..

Good deal, they need to stop giving the paid time off to teachers, no religious holidays off, no Christmas, no New Years, no Thanksgiving, no spring and winter breaks. If the teacher is out, they don't get paid.

Same with the students, you don't show up, you get your grade knocked down.

I am not seeing anything wrong with this at all.

Muslims, Christians, Jews, you take time out from school, there is a price. Teachers you want breaks? Too bad, you aren't special, use your vacation time. Save the school districts money.

As it was stated, this will upset some conservatives because of the religious connotation in the school.
It steps all over their holy grail like attitude.
It is not a problem for the progressive thinker, it's how the conservatives perceive the thoughts of Muslim/Islamic faiths in this country.

It seems you have never been to a school board meeting.
Take the time and go to one.
See what is happening in your community.
Everything you have made a comment about has no bearing at all on the pay of a teacher.

You haven't establish that there is a problem.

It's not a solution. You can celebrate whatever stupid holiday you like. We will continue to celebrate ours, and yup..to TALK about them.

So.."No".

Progressive extremists don't like that word.

Another one makes the case of the problem in a conservatives mind over religious discussion.
