Be wary of internalizing American feminists "logic" of what constitutes good and freedom. This issue is in flux right now. Most women reject feminist ideals. There is a massive disconnect between what women say and how they live and how they aspire to live.

Secondly, women are creatures who crave security. We see this in how they vote - disproportionately for Democrats who promise them a warm embrace from government. That same security also can be found in family and culture and religion. Take a look at the make-up of religious believers and women dominate there too.

Getting what you want in life IS a way of empowering yourself. The Western formulation of female empowerment is not the only formulation.
