It's human nature. Being hyper-alert is exhausting, but if we blink this kind of thing can happen. And how many people here have posted something along the lines of "fuck it, that's their problem over there"? How many examples are needed before people get the message that there IS no "over there"? Wherever these animals exist they need to be made to not exist - and right-fucking-quick. And no, this should not be seen as an excuse for bigots and idiots. Clear-headed, grave determination is needed, and there is no more time to dither.

A certain ruthlessness is necessary as well, something I'm not sure any current Western government is psychologically capable of.

Yet bigots and idiots will nonetheless attempt to exploit the attacks for some perceived partisan gain, and seek to use the attacks as an excuse to propagate their bigotry and idiocy.

And no one is practicing or advocating 'complacency,' or disregarding the threat because it happened 'over there.'

Indeed, the problem is we will never know of the scores of other attacks that never occurred, prevented by the good work and due diligence of law enforcement, intelligence services, and other government agencies tasked with addressing the problem of terror.

Consequently, when attacks such as in Paris happen, it creates the false perception that the attack was the result of time, fatigue, and complacency, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth; moreover, it's a disservice to those dedicated to preventing terrorist attacks, who are in no way 'complacent.'

Everyone is capable, it is just a matter of determination. Time to find that determination.
