In today's atmosphere of overlooking violence against women, is this action by the NFL (and courts) too lenient?

Ray Rice's Two-Game Suspension Makes Sense To No One But The NFL

The outrage began almost immediately after news broke that the NFL was*suspending*Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for the first two games of the season. The punishment came after he was*arrestedin February for*allegedly striking his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, during an altercation at a casino in Atlantic City.

The 27-year-old All Pro pleaded not guilty to a*third-degree charge of aggravated assault*in May.Surveillance footage*showed him dragging Palmer, now his wife, seemingly unconscious out of an elevator. As a first-time offender, Rice*avoided standing trial*and was accepted into a diversion program. The NFL announced on Thursday that Rice had been suspended and fined under the NFL's personal conduct policy.

Absolutely it's too lenient! Ray Rice is scum. Robert Mathis takes pills to get his wife pregnant and gets suspended 6 games. Ray Rice KNOCKS HIS FIANCE UNCONSCIOUS and misses 2. It's unbelievable.

Or, we could stay out of the personal life of athletes and famous people. I don't want to hear what they have to say about their cause du jour neither do I care what happens off the field. They are gladiators for my entertainment and nothing more.

I'm afraid their wife's and girlfriends would disagree. Pro football players aren't immune from the law because they're there to entertain you.

I am not saying they are immune from the law, Howard...I am saying I don't want to hear about their off field life. They are gladiators...their significance goes no further than how fast they can run, how hard they can hit, how well they can catch the ball and so on. As soon as they step off that field...I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear about their failures and I don't want to hear about their cause of the day.

I couldn't care LESS what "Duh MFL" does to him.

The important question is: What Criminal or Civil Charges were brought against him?

NFL isn't a law enforcement body. That they gave him any punishment is good enough. But until and unless he's charged, tried, and found guilty, pushing for punishment is in violation of due process.

As to the tangental issue of violence against women I don't have a problem with it when the woman's the instigator. Woman or not, against a man or not, you hit me I'm hitting you back. I'd love to see the people on tv who argued the 'men should never hit a woman no matter what' game that out in warzones when women are armed. :)

Yes. I don't give one flying rhinoceros shit that she started it...
