They do have better on-demand torque, but that level of power greatly reduces range (which is already a problem).That's coming. The great thing about electric vehicles is there on demand torque, great for towing, must better than gas or diesel. The challenge now is distance and there are trucks coming out shortly that are supposed to have a 400 mile range. I think Ford is partnering with Rivian.
I could see some sort of battery-exchange stations taking the place of gas stations, where you don't have to wait 5 hours for your car to recharge. That's plausible.
The people who own the current gas stations are direct competitors to EVs, so there will be heavy resistance. And it will take years to implement such a nation-wide program, along with standardization of battery cells to universally fit all vehicles.
Seems much cheaper and convenient to just use gas. There's no incentive to switch because there is no foreseeable advantage to the average user.
