The reason why European leaders didn't oppose Hilter's rise in Germany was because they saw fascism as a good opposition to communism.
Western Europeans are die hard capitalists but they are smart enough to realize that a healthy population is necessary to provide a good work force and that public healthcare is cheaper and more efficient than the free market.
American healthcare is the most expensive in the world and doesn't cover anywhere close to 100% of your population. Administration is eating up 1/3 of your healthcare expenditures. Hardly an effective, efficient use of the money.
Single payer would reduce healthcare expenditures in the US by 25%, even if reimbursement rates were unchanged.
