True. My daughter left her to move to Florida.

But there is still a shortage of people nation wide. Not all 7 million open jobs are in the mid-west

The issue is how much those positions are worth to businesses.
The graduates in my area are getting lucrative offers and moving all over the states.

Of course they are, that is what happens when there are more jobs than people to fill them.

We are not very large at all. We get the work done, a few of us just take on an extra project or two. As I said, there are local companies that pay better than mine, i traded salary for better quality of life. I have the most flexible work schedule I have ever had (though granted my experience is limited having spent 20 years in the Marines), and at this point in my life that is worth being paid a bit less.

I am not sure that sells as well with younger kids today. Also, the Ag industry is not the most glamorous!

There are many “kids” who want to love what they do.
Often times, such a kid will marry someone who is more motivated by money.

His people looked for and found a US manufacturer who tooled up to produce his caps....they are 100% American made, and well-constructed....not the cheap polyester crap from China we used to sell. I would prefer we tariffed China 25% on everything they try to sell here instead of making a deal. They'll cheat on any deal they make so why bother? Tariffs are easy to collect, can't be dodged, and go directly to the US treasury. That money can then be distributed to those who need to get off the China habit and use US manufacturing. 2) What about all the inflation that results from the increase in product costs?
3) How are Americans manufacturing these products going to be remotely as cheap when - for a start - US manufacturing wages are over four times more (on average) then in China?
4) How exactly are you going to redistribute these tariff funds and how are you going to assure that they don't just go to political corruption?
5) There are lots of other places besides China who can manufacture goods at a fraction of the cost that America can. Are you going to put tariffs on their goods as well?
6) What about the job losses to U.S. exporters to China when they retaliate and put huge tariffs on their products that they export? And those whose products are less competitive because they cannot take advantage of cheap, Chinese components in their finished products construction? What are you going to do about all those US layoffs?
7) What are you going to do if this localized trade war escalates to a world wide one?

Hopefully you get a fairly decent retirement pension from the Marines. Plus, you should also get free or close to free medical from the VA. That should help with your decision as to where you are now employed and live.

I was in the wholesale printed garment business for 30 years....embroidery damn near put me away until I found a woman who was good at it and had reasonable prices....The set up was expensive....hell, the tape for the design was a hundred bucks back then. The t-shirt BOOM I helped pioneer in the early 70's is over.....I got out in the nick of time.
