U.S. Taking Great Economy For Granted

i was abou 13 then, when the Pintos were exploding,,,my neighbor had one, he often had to work on it,,,is it true? the floor panel was made from wood?

Nah, tin foil.....the problem was the gas tank was behind the rear frame rail... Getting rear-ended by anything more than 20mph ended in rupturing the tank.....3 gallons of gas exploding equals a stick of dynamite.
but i do remember in the 80's as a valet, i was pretty sure that the chevette floor panels were made from some kind of wood or recycled wood

I am not sure you could certify a mass-produced car in the 1970's with a floor made of wood?

Here is a picture of Pinto replacement floor pans...definitely metal.

Maybe the car you saw had a rusted floor and the idiot who owned it put wood on the floor in it's place?
well i remember being a valet at 24/25,,,,i recall parking a chevette that had a floor that looked so beat up, so worn, yet, it felt like a panel of your standard 3/4 inch pine. maybe the owner installed it to replace the rotting floor?

I don't recall that at all. I do remember they were notorious for rusting out. Possibly someone
replaced the floor paneling with wood. But, not stock

That's my guess.

I believe you...I just don't think Ford could have sold a 70's model floor made of wood.

Especially back then when almost EVERYONE smoked...LOL.

Yep, common practice with VDUB buses too....my micro van had a 4x4 for a front bumper. They used to say your thigh bones were your front bumper in a VW. My Corvair Monza (Spyder) was the same deal.....you had to hope the crush-factor was less than 3 feet..in the bus it was 3 inches.

The Pinto was actually a pretty good car for its time.

The problem with it was (no shit) it would catch fire, and sometimes blow, if it got rear-ended on the left while the left turn signal was on. Otherwise, no problem.

Ford Execs decided that the occurrence of such a thing happening was miniscule. Because -- It was.

So they made a FINANCIAL decision to defend each lawsuit as it happened and pay out when they lost. It was actuarially more sound.

The goobermint almost busted through the Corporate Shield and almost locked them up. Big time trial.

But the car and its engine, for its time, wasn't that bad. A helluva lot better than the certified piece of GM garbage Vega engine.

The Pinto engine was actually a pretty badass engine believe it or not. They used them in real-deal racing cars in Europe.

The Vega wasn't all that bad either, except for the engine, the transmission, the differential, the brakes and the steel tended to rust a lot.... Other than that, not too bad.

No wood in either one for structural purposes. GM was the last American Manufacturer to use wood in the frame, IIRC.

and who cant forget the Pacer? god forbid someone tailgated you, even at 30mph......i would of been killed!

My favorite engine of that era was the GM 283....it matched hp to cui. After that it was the Chrysler slant-6. I had a Dart GT ragtop that would really step out...not like a MoPar but it would whip a lot of small V-8s. Lemon yellow with a black ragtop and interior....real pussy magnet. They stopped making converibles because they claimed they rolled, but Chrysler had extra weight in the chassis to keep from rolling...that GT would corner like a snake in a rat hole.

Ah, I remember driving a Pinto. I can tell you this....as were most cars in the late 70's and 80's....the handling was horrible.
If you ever had to swerve suddenly to avoid a child or object in the road, it was all but guaranteed you'd be going down the road backwards in the next instant.

And those drum brakes were pretty much useless going backwards at 35+ mph. Over 40 God help you. A loaded freight train could stop faster.

haha.

I was into bikes around that time.
Took years and years to find a car that could be more than a small shrinking dot in the rearview once onboard my modified Kawi Z-1000 or Yamaha XS-11.
I was running 10's when a "fast" car was in the 12's.
Bye bye now.

I was test driving a Porsche in Boulder Canyon one afternoon, passed a car and there came a Z-1 right at me.....lucky for him it was a Porsche and could do a 4 wheel skid and stay stick straight. Lucky for me he didn't panic and took the spot no wider than his handlebars between me and the canyon wall...he never deaccelerated....great piece of riding.

Yeah,
There were a number of times that I lived ONLY because my guardian angel intervened.
I think I used 8 of my lives up back then :)

I had a very short career in half-mile oval flat track....did hay bales head-first at way over 70mph once...that was enough for me. I went back to MX as fast as my feets would carry me.

I've been waiting for the Trump version of Reagan for 30 years and he has arrived.

A Trump version of Reagan...what does that mean...even more amnesty, bigger government and maybe he will increase the debt by 200% instead of the 180% that Reagan did

Trump got a long-term growing economy handed to him, at least Trump didn't fuck that up. And that's the only legitimate claim he can truthfully say.
But then truth and Trumpism, are factually a polar difference.

It amazes me that you commiecrats continue to lie for your commissars and fake news scoundrels while all they're doing is ripping you off and making you subservient to the state. Is freedom and trying to be successful really that scary to you? The Kenyan 's economy never got OUT of recession and his Fed kept rates below 1% so the party donors could continue to gobble up lesser companies...that's the only reason the stock market didn't crash and send us into a depression they could use to totally overwhelm us. Take the guns, ration healthcare, tax anybody breathing into submission (except each other) and demand we applaud becoming Venezuela.

WillPower, fake news??
That graph came from Trump's Fed, you ignorant slut! :happy-1:
Your entire post is complete bullshit.
The recession, officially ended June 2009. But then, I have to guess you're clueless about economics, that is based on your uneducated statement.
When did it end?
The stock market?
assets.sourcemedia.com.png

I'm pretty sure, that you are the most incompetent poster that I have seen in years.
Oh, I got it, you are one of those talking point/alternative facts, gullible and easily manipulated Little Trumpsters! Congratulations! :2up:

Well...I believe the Nash Metropolitan part.

What guy would brag about owning that?

ebay611490.jpg

It's cute...but hardly cool.

Link to me "bragging" ya little dork. The Metro is now a CLASSIC...all your Pinto ever did was explode and kill people.....fuck off.

Upon reflection...I feel bad for knocking your car.

It's not exactly my type of car - but it is a classic car (i.e. it is old enough and collectible).

But it's got it's place, it is pretty interesting looking and I love cars/trucks/motorcycles.

I just thought you were bragging about whatever and I got carried away in the discussion. But you shouldn't knock a guy's car...especially his first car.

Heck...if what you say is true...it has appreciated a TON. And I am sure it attracts a LOT of looks these days.

So...my sincere apologies for knocking your car.

Good day.

Venezuela went to shit because of corruption and over dependence on oil; absolutely nothing to do with socialism.

Those who had no real work and have gotten some since tRump showed up WILL be at the booths.

Nope!

There is no significant increase in the average employment gain over the past eight years.
The above snapshot was taken a month before the midterm elections and no ‘real work finders’ showed up to vote for Trumplikkan Party candidates for Congress which would have saved TrumpO from being investigated in the House. A very big deal for the good of the country. Thank you younger voters.

TrumpO’s economy is just not as remarkable as Trumplikkers think it is.

All the angry white nationalistic older less educated males that found real work the last couple years are already licking Trumpo’s arse.

I don’t see that many younger white educated males who are more open to diversity and non-susceptible to racist fear mongering. to flip to TrumpO just because they recently found a real job.

They are more likely to attribute that achievement to their own efforts than to the cranky, golfing, nasty tweeting old fart who resides at the Maralago resort much of his time these days.

Real job finding younger women as well as all nonwhite younger Americans in that group will be less inclined than young white males to recognize nasty recession rich thieving old TrumpO as deserving their vote.

Then you have the aging older white baby boom rural TrumpO soliid base literally dying off of the voter rolls. That decline in TrumpO support probably negates any gains he may get from real job finders willing to become MAGA TrumpOroids over the next year.

Best year by GDP:

View attachment 257762

If Obama’s economy did not get out of recession. then Trumpo’s economy has not and will not get out of recession either.

are we destined for euro like growth year after ? mehhhh

Big shot they dont wanna talk about the economy or helpin out the blue collars. That not what the democrats are about anymore . Think the coal miner or electrician gives a shit about GDP? ...all they care is do they have a job to go to.You can give the credit or blame to whoever ya want doesn't really matter who is in charge if its a progressive or some orange guy from queens .

as always
all they can do is regulate and tax ....or encourage growth in other ways but the private sector? is really up to all of us ....not me anymore I cashed out bowed out .

the working man doesn't care if yas shut all the coal fired plants or the coal is exported for the growing demand for coal overseas ....some of them are even 3 ,4th generation
I saw their video to AOC did ya see it ? regulation and market forces (natural gas)kicked em in the ass ...someone deregulates DOSENT matter who it is they're overjoyed !...cause at least they have a better shot at keeping their jobs ....

The work a day man wants to go to work and collect that check ...and he could give rats ass what joe stiglitz said on surveillance yesterday morning. BTW you may like his new book Progressive capitalism ...you ll approve hes a Columbia U professor

HEs tapping into that anti Establishment nerve running through the whole country

BUT MORE government cronyism is not gonna cut it ...i like what hes said about turning the power of the markets to help flyover country ... i probably don't wanna know what he ment .BUT it sounded nice ! :20:

You see it ?the whole world is FLAT and we're it for right now ...we're no speeding freight train

their is no pussyfooting exploding pinto around it .

If the chinks can stimulate growth ...which is mostly what they do anyway ! at least they are not building anymore ghost cities..... they are building coal plants !....they do have a lot of thier own coal but are still importing ....

Democrats and republicans Shouldnt come together and Finally do something about Illegal aliens? in the long run it will help help out the blue collars ..WHY do you guys get so huffy ?
ARENT THOSE OUR VALUES ? what are those values that socialist democrats keep bringing up ? who you have to call MR or MRS ? \ Under threat of law CAUSE THATS really super super important :20:

Theirs plenty of blame to go around on both sides of the aisle ....as we all know its been going on before trump and barry obama

ghost cities NOW that was some GDP errrr manipulation . INDEED
EXPLODING PINTOS ! :auiqs.jpg:
they're stil talking about pintos ? and dirt bikes .when i was a kid and they sent me up to my uncles house for the summers he would pick me up in Harriman NY (yep named after the family see former us ambassadors ) . the train would run right through mahwah .it would go by the ford plant WHICH WAS YUGE

i think they pumped out the pintos there ...or mavericks or grenadas who knows .ITS not there anymore anyway ...JUSt like past GDP number dont matter all ya can really say is REMEMBER when ....if yer reminiscing or just playing with the past numbers

later the japs knocked it down and threw up a tower and a hotel on the spot
Sharp was there ..instead of ford ya had sharp products ...dont remember if they were manufacturing on the site.
I dont think i spelled mahwah right
Johnny Cash or Springsteen? johnny 99 how did the song start again derp ?
