As the 9 a.m. deadline issued by authorities in Kiev expired, a Reuters reporter in the flashpoint city of Slaviansk, where armed men had seized two government buildings, saw nothing to show the rebels were obeying the ultimatum. At least 100 pro-Russian separatists attacked the police headquarters in the city of Horlivka on Monday, a witness told Reuters, and video footage on Ukrainian television showed an ambulance treating people apparently injured in the attack. In all, separatists have seized government buildings and security facilities in 10 cities.Angered by the death of a state security officer and the wounding of two comrades near Slaviansk, Turchinov warned rebels that an anti-terrorist operation involving the army would begin unless they laid down their arms, and that the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine "will soon be stabilized".His warning raised fears of possible Russian military intervention, but there were no signs of any Ukrainian forces in Slaviansk on Monday and no sign of an anti-terrorist operation.Outside the city council offices stood a group of about 12 armed men in matching camouflage fatigues, with black balaclavas, one of whom was holding a Russian flag.

Last thread I put up 3 cities had been taken. Now 10 cities. Let's see if Ukraine does send in its military.
Russia threatens if they do they will send in their military.

Mods, please, can we leave this in current events as this is current. Thanks for your consideration.

SLOVYANSK, Ukraine — A deadline set by the Ukrainian government for pro-Russian militants in the country’s east to vacate occupied buildings passed on Monday without signs of an effort to enforce it.Commandos who engaged in gunfights with men who had set up roadblocks stormed a Ukrainian police station in the city of Slovyansk on Sunday, but there were no signs after the deadline passed at 9 a.m. Monday that they had tried to approach again.

Also in Slaviansk, about 150 km (90 miles) from the Russian border, a small airfield which was occupied by Ukrainian air force planes on Sunday was empty on Monday and pro-separatist forces said they were now in control of it.Eastern Ukraine seems to be rapidly spinning out of the control of the central government. The governor of Donetsk, a multi-millionaire appointed by Kiev, has not been seen since April 11. A man calling himself Donetsk's new police chief has appeared wearing the orange and black separatist ribbon. The Ukrainian defense ministry acknowledged that it has had difficulty mobilizing the armed forces in the east, where some units have been blockaded in by rebellious locals."On some occasions we have lost the information war and there have been blockades of our units. People don't understand why they are coming," said acting Defence Minister Mykhailo Koval. He said 26 members of a reconnaissance unit had been blockaded for the past day and a half in Slaviansk."Negotiations are under way to free them to allow them to link up with our main force."In the town of Horlivka about 100 pro-Russian separatists attacked the police headquarters on Monday. Video footage on Ukrainian television showed an ambulance treating people apparently injured in the attack.Russia's foreign ministry called Turchinov's planned military operation a "criminal order" and said the West should bring its allies in Ukraine's government under control. The Ukraine crisis has led to the biggest confrontation between Moscow and the West since the Cold War. Washington said a Russian fighter aircraft had made 12 low altitude passes over a U.S. warship in the Black Sea over the weekend, which it called a "provocative and unprofessional Russian action".

Ukraine's interim president Oleksander Turchinov said on Monday the offensive against the rebels would still go ahead. But in a sign of discord behind the scenes in Kiev, he sacked the state security chief in charge of the operation.

The majority of Ukranians want to return to Russia. The few that think they can stop that return and keep it under EU domination just won't win this one. Russia doesn't have to do anything but wait. There is no serious opposition.

You are full of crap. You don't what you are talking about, or you are just a liar. The majority of Ukrainians want to stay Ukrainian. The majority of ethnic Russian Ukrainians want to stay Ukrainian. The country is being invaded by Russia. The ethnic Russian Ukrainians are under great threat if they voice their opinions. The ground war has begun and everyone expects the Russian's to occupy the eastern regions. Russian Ukrainians who speak out now will be arrested, disappeared, murdered and attacked under a Russian occupation. Silence and going along with the program is necessary for survival in the coming months.

That's what makes a civil war. You may SAY that in YOUR OPINION the majority of Ukrainians want to stay Ukrainian, but the facts do not back that up.

It is not a civil war. It is an invasion of Russian troops into a sovereign nation. Nobody believes those militants are Ukrainian, Everyone knows they are Russian's, the same as they were in Crimea. I could be wrong. I did not visit Ukraine, but I spoke to many Ukrainian, both ethnic Ukraine and ethnic Russian Ukrainians while visiting some nearby countries last week.

Wasn't there some sort of arangement made with the Ukraine that if they gave up
some weapons or something we and other nations would have their back?....

Is that agreement negated the first time it's needed?
