Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Ahmed Karti, received a phone call from the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Jan Eliasson, focusing on the overall relations between the United Nations and the Sudan.

Official Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Al-Kordofani, said the UN official expressed his understanding of the position taken by Sudan with regards to the strategic negotiations on the exit of the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) during the coming period, in agreement with other concerned parties.

For his part, Karti underlined Sudan keenness to cooperate with the United Nations in implementing projects and programmes and to expand their scope in the coming period, expressing appreciation for the relations between the UN and the Sudan.

The minister has pointed out the decisions taken with regards to some UN officials in Khartoum, stressing that these decisions were irrevocable. He stressed that the individual errors of some UN officials would not affect relations between the Sudan and the UN.

Karti told the UN official that Sudan is committed to the international charter within a context of a spirit of cooperation and the coordination between the Sudan and the UN.
