US Halts Mining In Designated Solar Energy Zones

US Halts Mining In Designated Solar Energy Zones | CleanTechnica
The US Department of the Interior has put a stop to new mining claims across 17 newly-defined “solar energy zones,” further emphasizing the Obama administration’s commitment to clean, sustainable energy.

The 17 “no mining” sites are spread across the western states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. Each was selected as being an area of public land highly suited for solar developments thanks to high irradiation, access to planned and existing transmission lines, and the ability install large solar arrays with a minimal biological, cultural, and historical or “landmark” impact.

Apparently you don't know that there are people that would file bogus claims just to force the government to buy the claims so they could put the solar farms up.

The depth and breadth of incompetence routinely demonstrated by Federal Bureaucracies is common knowledge, for example as you pointed out their inability to do what we pay them for and distinguish between legitimate and "bogus" claims. The appropriate thing to do under such circumstances would be for the Federal Government to sell the land in question and let the market determine the most economically efficient use for it, however that would fly in the face of the economic central planning sorcery practiced by the wizards of Washington, so it's not likely to occur and thus our economy yet again misses an opportunity to become more efficient and more productive.

"Attempts to centrally plan economies are very much like attempts to fly by dressing like and flapping like a bird: utterly futile because the most that can be observed of any successful economy are a handful of large details " -- Donald J. Boudreaux

You know, we saw how privatization worked in the Iraq war and occupation. Not worth a shit.

No, the thing to do is to make sure that our public lands remain just that, and are used in a manner that benefits all the citizens of this nation.

Ah Yes, the old non sequitur game..... did it escape your notice that the privatization that took place during the War in Iraq (aka contractors legally robbing the tax payers) was overseen by Federal Politicians and Bureaucrats?

You don't think increasing economic efficiency and output "benefits all the citizens of this nation"? What about the revenue benefits derived from selling the land? Why on Earth would any rational individual want to keep massive amounts of land tied up in the hands of inept bureaucrats that you yourself pointed out can't distinguish legitimate from "bogus"?

Apparently you dont know that the materials needed to make said solar arrays have to be mined.....

Yeah, that it ban mining...

Good luck making your solar arrays out of balsa wood.

Apparently somebody forgot to inform the Department of Interior that mining happens underground and that the sun doesn't shine there.

Most of these ideas come from a place where the sun doesn't shine either.

LOL , that's true, apparently when one accepts a position at a federal bureaucracy Common Sense DISABLED Mode kicks on by default. :D

IF the most efficient use for the land is building solar arrays on it (i.e. electricity can be produced and sold at a price that consumers are willing to pay and provides a better return on investment than other potential activities) that's what private enterprise will pursue. Not to mention the fact that unlike government, private enterprise is able to walk and chew gum at the same time, thus if it made economic sense they'd figure a way to both mine the stuff from under the land and collect the sunshine from above the land simultaneously.

Only 20 years? The oil depletion allowance was in effect for over 60 years and gave oil companies a big advantage. Some projects are too big for private enterprise exclusively. Transcontinental Railroad. Interstate Highway System. Panama Canal.

 Our copper mines in Arizona are open pit mines that Hussein has graciously allowed us to keep open but you're right.....I doubt the dumbass knows where copper comes from.

Halliburton did an excellent job in Iraq despite what your commie drones told you. And there is a SEA of shale-oil in the upper Rockies where nobody lives and the deer and antelope play....we need oil, not wind turbines that kill hawks and eagles and drive those near them into sickness and insanity from the noise. Solar? Sure thing, except it's a waste of money for anybody other than the swindlers who Barry let fleece us.

So...how many mining jobs have they killed this time?
