I've never heard of any vegans doing that. Almost always the animals rescued go to animal sanctuaries, where they get to live out their lives in a loving, peaceful environment, free from harm.
You have to be careful not to believe everything you read about stuff like this, because it's an all-out war. There are very big industries who stand to lose a lot of money by the growth of veganism, so they will lie or do whatever it takes to try to destroy it.
