Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua: Russia to add military bases overseas

Last November Secretary of State John Kerry declared the Monroe Doctrine dead; Putin was listening:

MOSCOW, February 26 (RIA Novosti) – Russia is planning to expand its permanent military presence outside its borders by placing military bases in a number of foreign countries, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday.

Shoigu said the list includes Vietnam, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, the Seychelles, Singapore and several other countries.

Why not? What is it? Nature abhors a vacuum. We give up our national prestige all over the world and who's to move in? Next, will China seek bases in the western hemisphere as well?
