" If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."
---James Madison

Learn from the Histories of Former Empires

The empire was stretched to its limits, emptying the city of its citizens and its treasure. At all costs the empire must survive and the costs were high. The polity had sacrificed its soul for the conquest of far-flung places and sapped its strength.

Old men had sent young men to die so that they might keep their personal power and wealth while the greater population languished in squalor and corruption.
An obvious description of the Athenian Empire during the time of Thucydides.

Empires fall from overextended military spending that drains the ability to support the homeland's infrastructure and impoverishes the people. Eventually, the inequity between the rich/powerful and the declining middle-class/poor will drive an internal fall. First, there will be a decline in morals and values, then an attempt at "bread and circuses" in which the public is stupefied into believing that all is well, then a lawlessness that plunges the society into complete ruin.
" Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. . . bringing the many under the domination of the few."
---James Madison

How different things would have been if Americans had had a little patience and not been hornswoggled by the insurrectionary terrorists of 1776 !! Under the wise tutelage of the Home Country, civilized living would have been established throughout North America---not just in Canada !

It is not too late, though. Americans could put aside their vain pride and accept governance from a civilized nation for about a hundred years, until the inhabitants of the USA are ready for self-government.

For instance, you could beg Canada to govern you. But Canadians know you too well, and I suspect they would decline the job. Why put themselves through such a thankless, unrewarding ordeal, when they live in such un-American bliss?

Politicians and government have been agents of Satan since time immemorial.

I repeat : Don't imagine that I think Canadian politics and Canadian politicians are so much better than their American counterparts.

It's Canadian society and Canadian people who are superior.
The same goes for England.

I remember the story about a Texan and an Englishman. The Texan, having bragged at tedious length to the Englishman about the superiority of everything in Texas, concluded by saying, "An' do you know that all of little ol' England would fit into just one corner of Tee-xas?" The Englishman replied, "Yes, and wouldn't it do wonders for the place?"

Once again in the turning course of time it is here again---the melancholy anniversary of the most dreadful day in American history, the day that did so much to blight the shining possibilities of this continent. I seek shelter in the shade of cypresses, en deuil et crêpe noir, and weep at the ruin of of so many bright hopes.

How ironic that, as one runs over the absurd slanders against King George and the Home Government which fill The so-called "Declaration of Independence" of the insurrectionary terrorists, one is struck by how much so many of them are in fact true of the present US government and its cat's paws, either at home or in its rampages abroad :

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has made Judges dependent....

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent...swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies....

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution....

For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us

For protecting them, by a Mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit....

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent

For depriving...in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury

For transporting...beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

For abolishing the free System of English Laws

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments

He has plundered...seas, ravaged...Coasts, burnt...towns, and destroyed the lives of...people

He is at this time transporting large Armies of...Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy...of a civilized nation.

My family was already here, and largely uninvolved, but good on them.
