We need them because they are a good Defensive weapon for law abiding people...they are easy for women to shoot, they allow better control because you have 3 points of contact on the weapon, they can hold both a flashlight and a lazer sight at the same time allowing the defender advantages when they are defending their lives or the lives of their family, they are a rifle, so demonstrate a seriousness to a criminal attacker that a 5 shot snub nose revolver never will....encouraging the criminal to leave the house rather than deal with the rifle armed victim...

A hand gun has an advantage in that you can carry it easier than you can a rifle.....and you can conceal it under clothing....but if you know you are in danger, you want a rifle, not a handgun for self defense.

First of all it depends on the set up, Ars can be set up to be a great personal defense firearms depending on the situation.

There are most likely 400,000,000+ firearms in the United States legally owned, what percentage of those are used in violent crime? Do you? A mass public shooter is different from a private citizen defending themselves...please try to think before you post..

The important point to the mass shooter? They do one of three things as soon as they are confronted by armed civilians or police...they run away, surrender or kill themselves.....which means they have no advantage simply having and AR-15 rifle...even the Las Vegas shooter...with 23 rifles in his room committed suicide as soon as the police simply staged in the hallway outside his room.

A private citizen with an AR-15 simply needs to scare off an attacker, since that is the way most defensive gun uses end up...but if it comes to having to shoot, for self defense, not mass murder, the AR-15 rifle is a great rifle.....again for all the reasons listed......they help a defender in lots of ways that a hand gun won't...

The key point...you don't have the Right to tell a law abiding, good person what they can or can't use to save the lives of their families, wether they choose a hand gun or an AR-15 rifle.....
