Zone1 What was the point of asking for the sacrifice of Isaac by his Father? Gen. 22

Abraham and Sarah's child was the first legitimate son.
God showed Abraham what God was going to do to salvage the human race through the sacrifice of His own son. Abraham's loyalty to God was tested and Abraham passed the test.
Thing is, Abraham knew he was going to go down the mountain with his son intact because God promised that Abraham would have heirs through Isaac. Had Isaac been sacrificed, then Abraham knew God would bring him back to life to keep God's promise to Abraham. God did bring Christ back to life.
Issac carried his sacrificial wood up the mountain, Christ carried his. Issac was Abraham's beloved son, so was Jesus the beloved Son of God. Issac took a gentile bride, so did Jesus. The exercise paralleled the death and resurrection of Jesus. Abraham understood...

Ishmael was cast out of the family by Sarah, therefore Isaac was Abrahams 'only' son. Abraham loved Ishmael but did Ishmael love his father. However, it was clearly God's doing by selecting Isaac's line to bring forth the messiah. Ishmael's line was also rewarded but only materially.

Regarding the sacrifice, Abraham was the God-type, Isaac the Christ type. Isaac, like Christ, was 'as good as dead' symbolically when he submitted to his father's will. It was a 'rehearsal' of things to come.

I'm glad a couple other people out there get that. :woohoo:

Issac took a gentile bride, so did Jesus.

Isaac married Abraham's niece. At that time the Canaanites were the 'gentiles' in the region, while the future 'Israelites' were in the loins of Abraham.

The 'elect lady' that Christ will marry will be Israel. The gentile converts are 'friends of the bridegroom'.

Abraham had six more sons by Keturah. They all attended Abraham's funeral.

Sodom and Gomorrah is a morality tale about mistreating travelers and sexual violence. The cities of the plain were long gone before Abraham and Lot.
No Mysteries, Only Mystifiers

The cities destroyed themselves in a prehistoric outbreak of AIDS. Also, it caused the plague in Athens in the Age of Pericles (430 BC). Why believe the propaganda that AIDS is a 20th Century disease? Its ancient appearance was one of the reasons homosexuality was banned in most societies.

There were no cities of the plain in the time of Abraham.

Why did God ask Abraham to sacrifice his Son? And why did he say Abraham's ONLY son? Ishmael was also a son of Abraham. Isaac wasn't even the first born. So, I'd like to see responses by Jews, Muslims and Christians on this.

Child sacrifice was common in primitive human tribes. The significance of this is that it was the earliest point in time when Jews stopped child sacrifices.

Correction. The future Israelites were in the loins of Isaac.

Was it common? Care to share your references with us?

We were grafted into the Jewish line. We Gentiles are also eligible for the promises God made to Abraham.
As to the Bride, the Church, the followers of Christ is His bride:
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

Christ is the bridegroom, the church is his bride...

You should read it. There’s nothing there other than Israel wickedness including when they were at Mt. Sinai and most likely sacrifices children and possible women as well. But, that has nothing to do with God telling them to sacrifice humans. Ezekiel’s quote same thing.
So, there is no proof with this that it was a common thing in Abraham’s day to sacrifice their only begotten in the flesh. But, Judah did just that with their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

When that was written the church was composed of Israelites. All Biblical patterns of Christ's marriage suggest that the bride is a special group within the greater church. Some are called the bride of Christ, the others are called the sons of God.

My guess is that God wanted his servant Abraham to know and understand the sacrifice it was for God the Father to sacrifice his Only Begotten Son for the sins of all the world. Isaac was Abraham's only son through Sarah. Isaac was the firstborn of Sarah. True, Isaac wasn't Abraham's only begotten but he was his only begotten through Sarah and Isaac was a long awaited blessing to Abraham and Sarah. Perhaps Abraham understood to a degree the sacrifice it was for the Father to sacrifice his firstborn son of the spirit and his only begotten son of the flesh for all the rest of his children. God didn't actually make Abraham go through with the sacrifice but simply made him go through all the feelings and trial of going through it. Hopefully Abraham's appreciation for our Father in Heaven was greatly increased.
